It was initially a Republican/Conservative/Independent group that paid to have Trump investigated and when their candidates lost the primary and Trump was picked at the convention, stopped at their end is what I read, and THEN a liberal group CONTINUED with hiring the investigator.

I had also read that it was Evan McMullin, the conservative independent candidate( and I believe he's an ex CIA Agent), who BEGAN the investigation using the MI6 guy, Christopher Steele.

oh, and the FBI never paid Steele to follow up, as the NY POST said...
