Here's the problem with that.

Kids in good zip codes get better schools. They get tutors. They get SAT test coaching... The problem with going on the SAT is that the SAT represents affluence, not potential. It's also the problem of an education system that "Teaches to the Test".

And even that wasn't good enough, since we had people bribing universities to get their kids in.

I don't think this is a good solution, but at least we are acknowledging the disparities in the society to start with.

1) Spoiled rich kid from top prep school with SAT prep help, good grades, etc & a SAT Score of say 1450 out of 1600.

2) A kid from the inner city with good grades in the public school system, no SAT help etc & a SAT score of 1350.

Obviously, the best choice is the kid from the inner city. He has the most potential.

Anyone who thinks colleges just look at grades & scores is a moron.

If this new SAT aspect is accurate & can put these other factors into a numerical scale, great.

It's really not valid to compare the experience of Asian Americans, who were never slaves, never had anything like Jim Crow, really didn't have to riot in the streets to get even basic humanity.

Poverty combined with systematic institutionalized racism starting with founding documents that enshrined your second class citizenship, um, yeah, that's kind of a big deal.

One of the big indicators is being from a family where you may very well be the first to go to college (or even graduate from high school)...including having parents (or parent) who is functionally illiterate.
