I was born and raised there. I still live in the area.

Seattle and the metro area is mostly liberal. The few conservatives who do live in the area keep a very low profile. I don't know of any republican or conservative that can get elected in Seattle anymore.

Since the majority of the population is liberal in that area, the last time we elected a gop governor was 30 years ago. The last time the state's electoral votes went to a republican president was 30 years ago.

A lot of the west side of the mountains is mostly liberal and since we're the majority, we usually win elections and set the over all policy of the state. Though there are pockets of liberals in Spokane too.

The result of that is higher standard of living, higher median income. Lower unemployment than the national average. We've got tons of jobs here. Cleaner air and water than a lot of cities in the nation. We encourage diversity and include everyone who lives here. Not just the white europeans.

As a result, people want to live here even though our weather isn't the best. People put up with the rain because we have good jobs that pay good wages so people can buy a house and raise a family.

We value eduction and most people here have at least a 4 year degree. I read an article a while ago that reported we have the highest population with advanced degrees and we read more than the rest of the nation.

While real estate is high here, other things like energy is much cheaper here than most of the rest of the nation. The reason why real estate is high is because of supply and demand. If people didn't want to live here real estate would be as cheap as it is in red states where people don't have opportunities and don't want to live there.

If you think that there's enough conservatives in Seattle to override the liberal vote, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Much of the Pacific Northwest is infested with Liberals, and, Seattle, given another generation or so, is going to require a flamethrower, to disinfect the thing, much as San Francisco, Kalipornia, already requires.

In all due respect however, the Seattle area is a liberal cesspool that you couldn't pay me enough to live near. As I love to point out, there are more dogs than kids in Seattle. White liberals better enjoy their day in the rain there, because the future will look far different and will likely become more socially conservative when the white liberals there die off and are replaced by minorities who typically are more socially conservative.

Even though we have such bad weather, people flock to this area. When real estate values were crashing all over the nation, we still had bidding wars on real estate here in Seattle. The value of my home actually increased during that time. I tried to dispute it with the state but the state didn't agree with me. I live in an area that the values only increase.

But hey, we're just a bunch of liberals who have created a place that millions want to flock to and live here.

We have jobs. Not just entry level or minimum wage jobs but good jobs that pay good wages. People can actually afford to live here because they're paid much higher wages.

While most of the rest of the nation is gouged for electric rates, we have the 3rd lowest rates in the nation. We don't pay hundreds of dollars a month just to have heat and electricity. In fact I just got my natural gas bill for September and it was 57 dollars. The electricity is a two month billing cycle and is around 100 dollars in the summer. In the winter it's higher, around 150 dollars for a two month billing cycle.

Since most of the food we eat here is actually grown and produced here, we don't pay as much for food here as other parts of the nation. Farms aren't that far from the city so people can go to farms to shop. Those that don't, go to the local farmer's markets. We have water for the crops to grow so farmers here don't see their crops fail because of the weather.

One of the best things, people are HAPPY here. People are FRIENDLY here. You can walk into a business and ask for directions or help and you'll actually get it. You can walk down the street without worrying about being mugged. You can leave your doors and windows unlocked and open. In 2004 I left for a 5 day trip with a friend and didn't notice that the cat ran out the garage door as it was being lowered. So the door didn't close, it stopped closing and opened all the way. That garage door was left completely open for 5 days without anyone being at our house. Not one thing was touched in the house. Nothing was missing. No one had entered our house through the garage while we were gone.

I do agree with you on the weather. It sucks. However I'm used to it. We locals joke that we were born with feathers on our backs so the rain just runs off. We have cleaner air and water though. We have a natural rain forest that is the only one of it's kind in the world. That rain forest actually gets snow and is on the pacific coast. While other states are facing droughts that are crippling them, we aren't. Crops grow here and we don't have problems with water shortages. In fact, that rain and snow provides the majority of our electricity. It's renewable, clean and cheap. We have such an abundance of electricity that we sell the excess to other states. We don't have drastic swings in the weather either. No bitter cold in the winter no extreme heat with humidity in the summer. We don't have hurricanes or tornados.

The Alaska oil pipeline ends right here in Washington state. So a lot of that oil is refined right here. Which makes our gas lower than other places in the country. I filled my tank on Sunday at Chevron. It was 3.43 a gallon. It's as cheap as 3.25 at other stations.

So by all means, don't move here. I'm sure that you would hate it.
