They stopped two armed men from fleeing into a more populated area. Those two men were killed, as there was no viable, non violent solution. Those police saved lives potentially by removing them from this mortal coil.

Perhaps now people will understand the threats cops face on a daily basis and will stop criticizing them or accusing them of being racist.

A senior FBI official identified one of the suspects in the attack as Elton Simpson, an Arizona man who was previously the subject of a terrorism investigation, ABC News reports.

FBI agents and a bomb squad reportedly converged on Simpson's apartment in Phoenix, where police were conducting an initial search with a robot.

KPNX-TV (Channel 12), an NBC affiliate in Arizona, reported that the two suspects had been roommates. The second man, though, has not been named officially or in media accounts.

Simpson was well known to the FBI, ABC News reported. Five years ago he was convicted for lying to federal agents about his plans to travel to Africa, "but a judge ruled the government did not adequately prove he was going to join a terror group there."
