It's good that you're reaching out for answers.
That's an interesting question but it's too vague to be able to understand.
Social setting?

Are you trying to entertain the ideas of socially responsible capitalism in which 'socialism' plays a part?
Or?
What part should socialism be playing in a capitalist country?
he's not reaching out for answers, dumbass. It's a rhetorical question. The answer is clearly "no."

Not in a free country.

Government's job is to manage the affairs of the state, not of private enterprise or the people.
The government's job is to protect you from predators, foreign and domestic. It also settles disputes. Anything else is tyranny.

A Government of the people, by the people and FOR the people

A government of the people(who think exactly like you), by the people( who act exactly like you) and FOR the people( only the people you want it to be for).

You emphasize FOR like it was meant for the government, let me guess, is here to give away free shit to everyone.

Do you honestly believe the founding fathers meant this?

Grow up!

What leftists can't comprehend is that "the people" means ALL the people, not just the majority.

We the People created a more perfect union

The Founding Fathers listed the duties of the federal government in a single sentence, "to provide for the common defense and support the general welfare".
General Welfare of today was not their intent ......EVER.........They warned us what would happen if we did that. They were right.

Yes he is pissant.
Your country is breaking down into armed insurrection and possibly a revolution between the north and the south on taking back the slaves the south could never accept losing.

And now don't make he have to stank your naughty bottom again for at least a week!

Put down the bottle and step away from the keyboard.

I've seen this characterization before. Before it even gets to government controlling the economy - the usual sticking point when discussing socialism - it makes the claim that "society should be run democratically", and that gets a full stop from me.
It should, because It's complete bullshit. The right instills the constant red herring fear of socialism, always on the next rise in American society for as long as I've been breathing. The more extreme on the left seem to embrace socialism because they are young, dumb and inexperienced and have a tenuous grasp of history. The left 'Squad' don't ever mention it. I've yet to see a politician of any political stripe openly embrace socialism as a viable governing strategy/alternative.

Because this narrative holds no water. It's place in political discussion is a non-starter for me.

I don't think government currently "runs" society in a broad way. Most of the decisions that impact society are made by groups and individuals with a lot of wealth and influence. I think that's exactly what democratic socialists want to change. They want government making those decisions instead.

Wrong.
People decide what they want, and then they elect the candidates who will do it for them.
There is no other way.
If you do not collectively create government to do what the majority want, then the only alternative would be that the wealthy elite would control everything themselves instead.
