Should the Legislative Branch have veto power over who is elected President?

The process of impeachment should only be used when a crime has been committed. As has been demonstrated the rules of evidence are not required to impeach a sitting president which provides congress the opportunity to set their own prerequisites or justification to impeach. Fabricated, hear say, media stories, and unverified evidence should not be admissible, yet as we see it is the core basis justifying this investigation.
Wrong.

This is a bottom line question for our democracy: Should the Legislative Branch have veto authority over Presidential elections? This actually occurred after the Hayes-Tilden election of 1876, when the Republican House refused to accept the election of the Democrat Tilden.

Modernly, the Democratic House has been trying to do the same thing regarding the 2016 election. Is this a good thing for our democracy? Does the Constitution really confer this type of veto authority on the Legislative Branch?
That was a weird thing where it wasn't clear which candidate won in several states.

Some countries have the legislative branch directly vote the head of state, for example the UK.

In some countries, the supreme court has to validate popular elections, in case there was some fraud.

In a lot of countries where people can vote for the head of state, the individual votes are what matter.

There is nothing in the Constitution about the political majority in congress refusing to accept the results of a presidential election. Hayes/Tildon election was about electoral votes and a complicated issue over Reconstruction. Wanna change the Constitution? That's another issue mostly democrats fall back on.

The U.S. Grant administration is generally considered to be the most corrupt and inept in history. Grant was expected to run for a 3rd term but he was sick with throat cancer. Southern democrats refused to accept a republican president but compromised rather than engage in another losing civil war ten years after the last one. As a result of the compromise Federal troops were removed from the South and the democrats were free to abuse Blacks well into the 20th century.

Of course, it is written in the Constitution. Impeachment can only be used against an elected president.

Used being the operative term. The Constitution specifies high crimes and misdemeanors as the basis for impeachment, not retaliation for winning an election. The fact that it has been misused as a political weapon does not alter this fact.
misdemeanor:
  1. a minor wrongdoing
The GOP set the bar pretty low when they impeached Clinton for essentially lying about an affair. How did that affect the country? It is easier to see Trump hurting the country by asking for personal favors from a foreign gov't.

There you go lying.
The phone transcript never used the word 'personal' in regards to favor.
You didn't read the transcript.
Words matter except when you use them, muppet.

1. So you believe that a "minor wrongdoing" is a legitimate basis for impeachment? Does jaywalking qualify? And do you consider perjury to be a minor wrongdoing? (The Arkansas State Bar considered it serious enough to warrant disbarment.)

2. Why do you consider a request to investigate corrupt dealings with a foreign government to be a personal favor? Does announcing that you intend to run for public office inoculate you from such investigation?

3. Exactly how has Trump "hurt the country," other than defeating Hillary Clinton?
1. I didn't write the Constitution but someone thought 'misdemeanors' were sufficient for impeachment if enough legislators agreed. They didn't have to include the term.

2. Curious coincidence that he was only concerned with Biden, the man most likely to face him in the election, and never mentioned Obama the man really responsible for policy. He made locking up Hillary a campaign mantra but has done little about her since.

3. Does America have any allies or just countries afraid to cross Godfather Don.

A few facts: Bill Clinton was impeached based on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. He lied under oath and to the United States Office of the Independent Counsel
United States Office of the Independent Counsel
Starr investigated Whitewater for 4 years and ended up asking Clinton if he had an affair under oath. Maybe we should ask Trump the same question, under oath.

That will surely work. Except that is only the minor poo that you monkeys are throwing against the wall.

If it wasn't 'personal' why was Giuliani, Trump's personal attorney involved?

The President has the power to delegate anyone fitting to pursue an administration function.

Trump has always denied having affairs. Was he lying to us or not? Is he still having affairs? Should he keep his clearances?

I don't believe that is true. Ivanka and Jared went through an official process to get their jobs. I don't believe Giuliani ever did.
