Choke a man to death on the sidewalk in New York for selling cigarettes. Severe a man's spine and throw him in a truck. Shoot a 16 year old teen who isn't running AT the police 15 times while he is on the ground already. Now this.

Why did they shoot this guy? And not once but over and over. Something is seriously wrong with how police in the US do their job. They seem to have gained a 'we're god, we'll do what we want whenever we want' attitude.

It has to stop.

At the very least police departments should change policy so that if a cop 'thinks' someone in a car might be dangerous they should always step back and have the person slowly exit the vehicle and lie down. This wild west shoot-everyone mentality has to stop. And should anyone who is confronted by the police cooperate and not physically resist? Yes. I'm not sure why people, who know this is how the cops operate now, still try to resist or fight with the police. But the police are just waaayy to quick to shoot people.

I have a neighbor who is black. His car was in the shop for a couple days so he rode the bus nearby, where there are 6-7 other people there waiting in the morning as well. A cop stopped by and asked only HIM what he was doing there, all the other people were white. This guy was wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase waiting for the bus and a cop stopped and profiled HIM.

Bias by the police is absolutely real and it is disgusting. It is obvious this same bias carries over into these shootings in many cases.

And the best thing to do with police is keep your hands in plain view, move very slowly, etc. You know something is wrong when the public has to be afraid of the police and act this way. The incidents the last year or so on video, including the two this week are so vile and the loss of life so unnecessary as to make one sick. A guy tells a cop he has a gun in the car and is reaching for his registration and license and the cop shoots him 4 times? 4 TIMES. WTF is that.

i understand, I'm merely saying that many people think that if you are not guilty of a crime an arrest is unlawful, and that just isn't true.

in most states you can also resist if the officer first uses excessive force. which of course is tricky because the officer is allowed to escalate the force to whatever point is necessary to affect an arrest if you resist arrest first.

Examples

A police officer has reason to believe you committed a crime

Case 1. He walks up , says you are under arrest and swings a baseball bat at your head. That is obviously excessive force and you can legally resist (in most states a few states have oddball rules)

Case 2. He walks up to you and attempts to handcuff you and you fight back. That is a lawful arrest and you do NOT have the right to resist and the officer in fact has the right to escalate to whatever force is necessary to arrest you.
