Since when does the Catholic Church have the right to force their religious values...

The affordable care act provides for free preventive services starting around Sept 2010. It will probably save insurance companies a bundle of money too.

Preventive Services Covered Under the Affordable Care Act | HealthCare.gov

Nothing is 'free'. Someone pays for it. If not you, who? Me? Fuck that.

Your work pays for your employer provided healthcare. That's why your employer gives it to you.

In exchange for your work. If you had a job, you'd know that.

And your employer contracts with the insurance company as to what they will and wont cover.... If you had a job, you would know that.

Wait!

What?

The Church is forcing people to work for it?

Heaven forefend!

Apparently, the Catholic church thinks it can deny their non Catholic employees THEIR religious values.

What's next? Lie detector tests to see if their employees are using birth control?

This is a POLITICS forum sweetie...........

Only somebody with the political IQ of a handball thinks this is a winner for the k00k left!!:fu:

...on their non Catholic employees?

Churches are exempt from the ruling.

However, religious institutions that employ and serve people outside their faith -- hospitals, elementary schools, universities -- have to comply with the requirement to cover birth control if they offer health insurance coverage for employees. That means such Catholic institutions, which employ and serve wide swaths of non-Catholics across the country, will not be exempt, despite church teachings against use of contraception.

Obama Administration's New Contraception Rule Puts Key Catholic Vote at Risk

What gives the Catholic church (or any church, for that matter) the right to force their religious convictions on employees who aren't even catholic?

They have every right. The employee agrees to the terms and conditions of the employment. If the employee is unhappy, they are free to move on to other employment.
Same applies to say, smokers. If the employer makes a policy decision and bans smoking from it's property, all the workers who smoke, must wait until they leave the property before lighting up. Two examples are University of South Carolina and the Charlotte Health Care System. Both have banned the use of tobacco products on their respective properties.
If an employer's health insurance regs do not cover a smoker, that employee must either pay higher premiums for their health insurance coverage or may even be ineligible for coverage.
An example of this is The State of North Carolina. The State employee that smokes must pay a higher premium for their health insurance coverage.
Some churches demand as a prerequisite to employment, no cohabitation or even a lifestyle which adheres to church doctrine.
Churches are private entities. They can do as they wish as long as they violate no EEOC laws.

Hey Neo.........w0w..........has this issue given the feminist bulldogs a mental meltdown or what??:boobies::boobies::boobies::funnyface:

I have no need for an employer. I work for myself. :eusa_angel:

What gives the Catholic church (or any church, for that matter) the right to force their religious convictions on employees who aren't even catholic?

Arrogance.

The Catholic Church likes to set up secular organizations, take billions in state aid, then force their beliefs upon the community via these secular institutions.

Arrogance explains this.

If the Catholic Church elects to set up business outside the Church, that is their prerogative. AT that point though, the Church loses all tax exempt status on those outside the church businesses.
So what?
I can think of a few mega churches around here that own acres and real estate that are parks, shopping centers and business parks. So what. They paid for it. They can use it how they see fit.

They are welcome to seek employment elsewhere.

Not according the CRA which bars employers who serve the public from discriminating based on religion.

So they can't seek employment elsewhere?
Loo, employment is not an entitlement. We have no indentured servitude here. No one is stuck with their current employment situation.

Maybe Muslims will be able to use the religion exemption in
the Papa ObamaCare dictate, to get out of it

As individuals

Their mosques are exempt. Their charities mainly are - because they treat only Muslims and employ Muslims. However, many Muslim groups - and individuals - have sided with the Catholic Church on this.

they are like any other employer they offer a job with benefits the applicant can take the job or look for a better option elsewhere .
why would you expect a catholic employers to offer as a benefit something they are morally opposed to ???

would you expect a company committed to non smoking to have a cigarette vending machine in thier canteen ????
really people a company should have a right to run its business as it pleases as long as it doesnt break any laws

im not catholic but i think to tell a catholic org what they must offer to thier employees is unconstitutional
they are NOT forcing there religious convictions on anybody just saying they will not support there employees need of contraceptive or abortion .

by the way churches are exempt

Unanimous Supreme Court in Hosanna-Tabor Recognizes Ministerial Exception and Affirms Religious Organizations' Rights Under First Amendment
by Gammon & Grange, P.C.

On January 11, 2012, the United States Supreme Court issued what is perhaps its most significant religious freedom decision yet in this century, strongly upholding the religious hiring rights of religious organizations. In Hosanna-Tabor Lutheran Evangelical Church and School v. EEOC, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of a church employer against a challenge by a discharged schoolteacher that her termination constituted disability discrimination and retaliation in violation of federal employment laws. The Court affirmed that the Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses of the First Amendment require that churches and religious organizations be free from lawsuits brought by a minister under federal employment discrimination laws. The landmark 9-0 decision, coming less than three months after the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit's decision in the World Vision case, provides a strong reaffirmation of the First Amendment basis for religious organizations' hiring and firing rights.

No doubt

but it is still open
could Muslims try to claim exemption, to Papa ObamaCare itself, as individuals
due to their religion
similar as to the Amish

I have no doubt , the Left is not for this at all
