tLiability concerns prompt some cities to limit sledding - Yahoo News

So you say that you take your children to your local park to go sledding in the snow? Not much longer. Now it appears that Big Brother thinks it is far too dangerous for you to do so.

This is the line in the article that kills me .

"Most people realize that cities must restrict potentially dangerous activities to protect people and guard against costly lawsuits, said Kenneth Bond, a New York lawyer who represents local governments. In the past, people might have embraced a Wild West philosophy of individuals being solely responsible for their actions, but now they expect government to prevent dangers whenever possible."

So now children have the mentality of the wild west for wanting to go sledding? Are they now Jesse James incarnate?

Liberalism, the death of the mind, will, and emotions.

Why don't liberals just lock us all up in jail? I mean think about it.

1. Equal access to food, shelter, and clothing.
2. Equal access to educational opportunities.
3. Free medical care, none of this Obamacare crap.
4. Every day is gay pride day.
5. Protection from outside intruders, 100% safety.
6. 100% gun free! Maybe an occasional knife or two.

Make it a padded cell and take away anything to hang yourself with and what you have is a liberal utopia, there is virtually nothing you can choose to do that will hurt you.

Welfare/lottery mentality that the democrats have fostered over the years. Everybody is gonna get their quick litigation buck and no such thing as personal responsibility. They just think it grows on trees but have no idea that it has to come from somewhere. Morons.
Democrats should not be allowed to vote.

This has zero to do with "Liberalism". It has to do with a litigious culture. If it were up to Liberalism alone you could sled anywhere.

Your own link sums it up at the end:

"We live in a lawsuit-happy society and cities are just being protective by banning sledding in areas that pose a risk for injury or death," King said.
Your own link dood.

It's not liberalism. It's democrat, left-wing, welfare mindset. Litigation is just another means. Another form of welfare/lottery, something-for-nothing mentality.

Some people love to file lawsuits...
They feel it's like buying a lottery ticket with the guarantee of free cash!

And who writes our laws? Is it not lawyers?

I include both parties in this. Perhaps I should have used the term "Progressive" or "collectivist" instead. After all, the traditional usage of the word liberal means the opposite of authoritarianism. With a government that passes around 40,000 new laws and regulations a year, the whole lot is the complete opposite of this.

No, that's not what lawyers do. Legislators write legislation. That's why we uh, call them legislators. But yes I agree with that definition of Liberalism.

As far as who's passing meddling laws you'll have to settle it with post 7, which declares a "democrat [sic] left-wing mindset" is creating the litigious environment, which means he's defending these laws against sledding. You two fight it out and decide who's on what side...

Well, if parents wouldn't sue if their kids get hurt sledding, this wouldn't be an issue, would it?

it's actually linked to progressiveness, not true liberalism. In a progressive society the government is responsible for protecting your every little chance of harm. Thus when you manage to harm yourself, you hold the government responsible. The only response the government has is to ban you from the activity, and the progressive person replies with programmed acquiesce.

TOLD YA!!! The government wants control of your body. Give it to them willingly or they will TAKE it over your protestations.

wonder how many suing parents were conservatives?

between 1997 and 2007, more than 20,000 children each year were treated at emergency rooms for sledding-related injuries.
In meetings leading up to the ban, Dubuque council members lamented the move but said it was the only responsible choice given liability concerns and demands from the city's insurance carrier. They pointed to judgments in sledding lawsuits in the past decade, such as a $2 million judgment against Omaha, Nebraska, after a 5-year-old girl was paralyzed when she hit a tree and a $2.75 million payment when a man in Sioux City, Iowa, slid into a sign and injured his spinal cord.

This fails as a straw man fallacy.

Another straw man fallacy.

And nowhere in the article was anyone identified as a 'liberal.'

So it was Progressive insurance that had the underwriters inform the city cut out sledding or no coverage.....Capitalism kills individualism and free will just as any other system of govt...

Nonsense.
