So, now we are recruiting people to get them on food stamps

Isn't it obvious that if enough people game the system that the system will fail. The people that are truly in need will suffer the most harm.

I wonder at a liberal Democrat socialist utopian system that seems doomed to disaster for all but the wealthy and political class. Sure, all the signs are there that it wins elections but the final cost is devastating both economically and to the human spirit..

A decade ago, only about half of eligible Americans chose to sign up for food stamps. Now that number is 75 percent.

Man, once they get those seniors signed up, they'll be moochers for the rest of their lives. Without meaning, they'll turn to drugs and "recreational sex." They'll surely forget God and start worshiping government... and probably fulfill some other fascist cliches.

Guess, again.

"Fueled by a report from the conservative Boston Herald, right wing media outlets such as Fox News, the New York Post, and the Washington Times, are demonizing government assistance programs by tying them to the heinous terror attacks committed at the Boston Marathon. Conservative blogs used sensationalized headlines and rhetoric to make their attacks, like RedState's "Does The US Welfare System Benefit Jihadists?" and Monica Crowley's "Nice Return on Our Investment, Huh?"

I think you just stepped in a big ol' pile of your own ignorant shit.

Her destination on a recent morning was a 55-and-over community in central Florida, where single-wide trailers surround a parched golf course. On the drive, Nerios, 56, reviewed techniques she had learned for connecting with some of Florida’s most desperate senior citizens during two years on the job. Touch a shoulder. Hold eye contact. Listen for as long as it takes. “Some seniors haven’t had anyone to talk to in some time,” one of the state-issued training manuals reads. “Make each person feel like the only one who matters.”

In fact, it is Nerios’s job to enroll at least 150 seniors for food stamps each month, a quota she usually exceeds. Alleviate hunger, lessen poverty: These are the primary goals of her work. But the job also has a second and more controversial purpose for cash-strapped Florida, where increasing food-stamp enrollment has become a means of economic growth, bringing almost $6 billion each year into the state. The money helps to sustain communities, grocery stores and food producers. It also adds to rising federal entitlement spending and the U.S. debt.

Let's see -- you're condemning

**Poor Seniors
**Poor White seniors living in trailers
**the alleviations of hunger and poverty
**the states attempt to grow

Is that going to be the new GOP platform -- piss on the poor starving seniors. Perhaps a photo of Ted Cruz urinating on a bone-thin old woman.

Facts sure a bitch aren't they?
One has to be deaf, blind and dumb to not know that there is CURRENTLY a food stamp program available NOW.
The recruiting is to grow government, nothing about food.
Amazing how naive and gullible you folks are.

Why is there a recruiter?

If people needed help, actually needed it, they would sign up.

What a senseless waste of money her job is

You're all Thumbs...sorry, I just needed to get that off my chest.

some seniors have alzheimers, dementia, & others are just plain old and can't make decisions for themselves. Look at the elderly people who die in high rise bldgs every summer. Leave it to the Fox & Friends asswipes AND their audience to seek to demonize the gov't for wanting to make sure the elderly recieve sufficient nutrition. :bang3: Gawd but those people are dipshits

So those folks that have dementia are on their own and wandering around unattended.
Sure, right.

it's called family, perhaps you've heard of it.....what are we doing recruiting....
lets compare this to football recruting
the US needs 3 more welfare queens
and we have a need for carzy checks
maybe one welfare fraud

So recruting responsibilities will be Lakhota gets the SW with his indian charm, Halznut can teabag his friends in the NE and Joe B can reminisce about being a former communist republican in the Midwest.

The ignorance of conservatives is remarkable.

Yet another thread fail by the OP, just like the ricin letter thread.

The SNAP program is for low income working families, as well as seniors, those disabled, and children.

It is therefore both appropriate and mandated by the USDA to promote the program.

Conservatives can’t have it both ways: they can’t advocate for a ‘free marketplace’ of labor with low wages and a static population of working poor yet refuse to afford the working poor the ability to ensure a family’s fundamental nutritional needs.
