1. Some young people are not academics and see no point in an academic education. These students would do better in hands on training for mechanics, carpentry, agriculture, welding, plumbing, etc,... Something the education system has went away from over the decades in their pursuit/belief that all have the ability to be academics. The reality is there are quite a few who can barely handle basic reading, writing, and arithmetic... Much less a skilled hands on job.

2. As much as the educational system pushes for social equality they will never achieve it because parents and educators will always institute a peer system which invalidates their 'social equality'. There will always be those who the teacher prefers and/or those certain influential parents ensure are treated preferentially.

3. Increasing the minimum wage will only cause a substantial increase in skilled labor rates also and cause the system to reset at a higher rate than before as the price of that Big Mac Meal goes from $7 to $14. In other words the plumber, carpenters, electricians, etc,..., most in this area make $50 - $100 an hour, will double their current rates. Their rates increasing will substantially increase the cost of new construction, existing house prices, and finally but not least the cost for anyone renting. It will also increase the cost of utilities since after all... Who's going to maintain and repair those utilities?

4. Expecting a continuing education for skilled labor by instituting required classes that they have to pay for every year is going to substantially increase the cost that skilled labor will charge. Can anyone say inflation? That hole in the wall used to cost $100 to repair but since I now have to attend classes on how to repair it and do it safely every year it's now going to cost you $200. You want burnt out outlet replaced and the circuit breaker that it took out with it? Well it use to cost you $100 for that also but I have to attend a classes every year for repairing it and do it safely so now it'll now cost you $200. Because we all have to sit through a government course on OSHA for another day or two every year instead of working.... Got to have safety training tacked on to all this training too so we're all safe when we're doing this stuff. While we're at it we'll tack on a basic first aid and CPR course they have to attend for a day every year too.
^^^^^ All of this also means that they're missing out on jobs they might have gotten. $$$ ^^^^^

Don't like being paid minimum wage because all you know is how to flip burgers and clean?
^^^^^ And there's some who can't even handle those last two. ^^^^^

Learn a damn skill.

The Sons of Mary seldom bother, for they have inherited that good part;

Tally, transport, and deliver duly the Sons of Mary by land and main.

Under their rods are the rocks reprovèd---they are not afraid of that which is high.
Then do the hill-tops shake to the summit---then is the bed of the deep laid bare,
That the Sons of Mary may overcome it, pleasantly sleeping and unaware.

They finger Death at their gloves' end where they piece and repiece the living wires.
He rears against the gates they tend: they feed him hungry behind their fires.
Early at dawn, ere men see clear, they stumble into his terrible stall,
And hale him forth like a haltered steer, and goad and turn him till evenfall.

To these from birth is Belief forbidden; from these till death is Relief afar.
They are concerned with matters hidden---under the earthline their altars are---
The secret fountains to follow up, waters withdrawn to restore to the mouth,
And gather the floods as in a cup, and pour them again at a city's drouth.

They do not preach that their God will rouse them a little before the nuts work loose.
They do not preach that His Pity allows them to drop their job when they damn-well choose.
As in the thronged and the lighted ways, so in the dark and the desert they stand,
Wary and watchful all their days that their brethren's ways may be long in the land.

Raise ye the stone or cleave the wood to make a path more fair or flat;
Lo, it is black already with the blood some Son of Martha spilled for that!
Not as a ladder from earth to Heaven, not as a witness to any creed,
But simple service simply given to his own kind in their common need.

And the Sons of Mary smile and are blessèd---they know the Angels are on their side.
They know in them is the Grace confessèd, and for them are the Mercies multiplied.
They sit at the feet---they hear the Word---they see how truly the Promise runs.
They have cast their burden upon the Lord, and---the Lord He lays it on Martha's Sons!

We tried making good grades required for students to get their driver's licenses. That failed miserably.

Now, we just mandate they stay in school until they are 18 before dropping out, so they sit around and cause problems instead of getting gone!

Trying to make irresponsible people responsible is impossible without pain!
