Songs 'bout luv & loss

In the early 70's Cat Sevens was the voice of lost and urequited love:

His "Lady D'Arbanville" was a song about a lover lying in her grave (Patti D'Arvanville?), or Sad Lisa...

But "How Can I Tell You" seemed to be about a lover only dreamed of and not yet known; "it's a song about someone with love ready to give to and share with someone who has not come into his life yet. Idealized love or whatever, it's still a longing, a profound longing"

Here are two versions; one with a female voice and the second with Cat's voice, the original version.

(BTW there is some beautiful and moving artwork in both these videos. I suggest clicking on the expansion arrows in the bottom corner of the video to get the full impact of it's beauty and poignance)

This is a song (lament?) a "loner" is best able to understand or appreciate.
Here's a scene from the second version - notice the lonely figure walking the flooded shoreline, as close as he
(or she) can get to the unknown land, the island projecting through the surf, just out of reach . . . Terra Incognita
