Steubenville Rapists have been found guilty

At the risk of drawing yet more flak....

Last I heard, she got drunk, but nothing I read said she's been drugged against her will. Why did she choose to drink to the point she was unaware of her surroundings, especially among strangers? Were any of her friends supposed to be with her, and if so, why did they leave her in such a vulnerable state?

Nothing excuses what they did,and this error in judgement should never had lead to such a horrific outcome, but this should be a warning to other women and girls who put themselves into potentially dangerous situations.

jumping into a situation of rape to defend someone.... could potentially put that person is just as much danger of being raped themselves.

hopefully it also should be a warning to boys and men.... to not take advantage of someone in a impaired state of consent.

Sy, I was thinking of multiple people at the party- or anyone who saw them- beating the hell out of them. Shooting them or walking up behind them and cutting their throats would also be acceptable, IMO.

I also believe young girls should know some form of self-defense and advocate the keeping of mace/ or tazers.

As I said, I don't think any girl should go to a party full of strangers alone or that she should be left alone at any point.

If I learned my son left a female friend alone at a party with strangers, I would be most displeased with his failure as a friend and as a decent human being.

Those who saw them either laughed, took pictures, or did nothing. This is why others are objecting to charging only the boys who violated this girl and letting those who watched, took pictures or allowed it to happen go free.

:clap2:
One of the reasons these kids got off so lightly is because the victim isn't going to suffer at all. There are no psychological effects. She didn't even know what happened. Until someone showed her the video, she had no idea.
What a load of garbage. She was raped and humiliated and will carry that with her the rest of her life.

You think women who are rufied don't suffer because they can't remember the rape? You get crazier with every post.

What are you suggesting, that women can't remember what happened are psychologically damaged by not remembering what happened? Until she was shown the video, she had no idea she was being humiliated. That's why the sentence was so light.

In some cases a lack of memory isn't permanent. The trauma temporarily erases the memory. The memories will return in time. In this girls case, she was unconscious because she was so drunk. The same way you will never remember what happened during a surgical operation, she will never remember what happened to her. Apparently from the witnesses, she was voluntarily that drunk, so these guys didn't even get her that drunk. Otherwise there would have been an additional criminal charge for that. The poor girl thought she was among friends she could trust. That's an object lesson for everyone. There are no friends and you can't trust anyone.

:clap2: Well Said

Were they WHITE?

The one that got the lesser sentence was not white. Sorry, that dog won't hunt in this case.

This will draw some flack...

but if you think about it...

if she remembered nothing, there was no psychological/emotional harm done until others leaked the photos and information and she became aware of her victim status

there have been several child-porn cases in the news over the last several years where otherwise unaffected persons (some of whom were old enough to recall their experiences, despite not associating them with any negative emotions) began experiencing emotional trauma after they were told they were victims and that they ought to feel violated or harmed in some way. There have been similar cases involving children 'playing doctor'- once considered nothing to be too concerned about- who are taught that their experiences were terrible and then go on to experience the trauma they're taught to feel.

It's not unlike the complex children are taught about sex in general ['naughty parts'] or the trauma we teach children to experience if they soil themselves as a part of toilet training.

All I'm saying is that, while it's good these people won't be able to do this to anyone else, I wonder whether the way this all went down- pictures all over the web and such- led to emotional trauma she wouldn't have otherwise experienced, much like how 'vicky' now says she feels violated every time she learns someone else viewed the videos of her engaging in sexual activity in her youth.

Considered in that context, she did not consent to the videos and photos being posted on the internet, either.

CNN is coming under heavy criticism for their coverage of this verdict. Three CNN Reporters all talked of the tragedy that these young men are seeing their lives ruined and their futures shattered, and, in addition to spending time in prison, will be branded as sex offenders for the rest of their lives, their once-promising athletic careers are over! Oh the tragedy. Not once did these reporters so much as mention the victim.

CNN's Facebook page has been blitzed with people protesting their kid glove coverage of the rapists, while ignoring the victim.

Isn't against the law to mention the victims name?

A grand jury is looking into them.

There is also the fact that Mays will do a year as an adult. his life is destroyed, and he will have to register as a rapo.

Good.

The psychological effects the victim will suffer will last a lifetime.

One of the reasons these kids got off so lightly is because the victim isn't going to suffer at all. There are no psychological effects. She didn't even know what happened. Until someone showed her the video, she had no idea.

That in no way changes the fact of how psychologically damaging such an experience is. In many ways, it is worse. How would you feel if you'd been raped by a several men when you were unconscious and then found out about it later? Do you really think there would be no psychological damage?

To say the victim in this case is not going to suffer at all: this just shows so much vicious, mean spiritedness. And stupidity. Of course she will suffer. Anyone would.

You got a point there, I still think the sentences were too light. We treat rapes with a slap on the wrist here.

Screw the young boys. I laughed my ass off watching the one cry like a little bitch. And the other one ? When given a chance to speak he apologized for the video, not the rape. Any remorse these punks express in only over having been caught. They see nothing wrong with what they did. I do hope there futures are destroyed. I hope it follows them for the rest of there lives. They deserve as much consideration as they gave the girl they raped. Fuck them.

We don't have room in our prisons. It effects how long we keep offenders and how often we allow the to plead out or leave for an early release. We need to end the war on drugs and focus on rapists, pedos and murderers.

Or make the punishment so brutal that it would strike fear into the heart of any would be offender. I say a good horse whipping for the first offense would be a good place to start.

That is pretty much true there is no room in our prisons anymore, anything short of killing someone and you can pretty much skate your way out of the court room.

They should be charged as accessories, IMO.

If nothing else, they can surely be charged under the Good Samaritan laws passed after the death of Katherine 'Kitty' Genovese and adopted nationwide shortly after.

Every person who laughed, took photos, and said nothing, not doing so much as calling police to report what was happening, was a participant in my eyes.

I wonder what was going on in their life that they thought that was okay? I called my sister a name and my dad made me write a 1000 words on why I thought it was okay to disrespect my sister.
