Swiss Region Bans Burqas

So you think people who want to walk the streets naked should be free to do so?

No, that is a health matter.
In what way?
And are you aware that vit D deficiency is a very serious health problem associated with covering every cm of your skin? It leads to osteoporosis, heart disease, hormonal Imbalances and mental health problems.

So? That still does not mean that we ever want out government dictating such things to us. That is a TERRIBLE idea. Terrible.
Excuse me, but it was you who mentioned health. You said people are prevented from walking around naked because it's 'a health matter'. I don't understand what you mean by that so I asked you why, and informed you of the very real and serious health matter of developing vit D deficiency from covering your entire body. So, to what health problems are you referring?

A public health matter.
Can you elaborate?

Which is fine. However this Swiss Canton DIDN'T DO THIS.
Correct. The Swiss know it isn't 6 year old children celebrating Halloween who might blow them up. Good for the Swiss :)

So why don't they know it's not Burka wearing women either?

In fact, how many bombs have gone off in Switzerland? Er........ none?
Why should they have to wait when they can see what's happened in various places around the world, when they don't have to and when they are absolutely not impinging on religious freedom or rights? They don't, and they've decided not to.

So, if a country sees a threat from a group of people, it's okay to then limit their freedoms?

So the US goes around invading countries at will, other countries should restrict the rights of Americans because the US is a threat? Right, I'll go and write to some foreign governments explaining your position.
If those "freedoms" possibly pose a threat from terrorism then yes limit. Would you allow a Sryian refugees enrollment into a flight school the moment they come to the US?

So, does a woman wearing a burka "possibly pose a threat"?

Does a person walking around with a GUN pose a threat?

Two sides of the same coin here. If the US is going to limit those people who "possibly pose a threat", then you've gone a looooooong way to getting rid of a lot of freedoms.

MOST prisoners in US prisons are males. Males pose a threat the security of the USA.

not dress code, just don't hide your face code

That doesn't matter to me. I don't want the government able to dictate to us American citizens in such a way.
But they already do.

ONLY in certain situations. In America, women can wear a burka if they choose.
I don't think you've read the earlier posts that point out that there are laws on the books in certain states where covering your face is already illegal. So, what you say does not apply to all of America at all, regardless of your insistence and emotional response to the issue. Please read the earlier posts and you will see.

It is not "illegal." It is only illegal under certain circumstances, right? The burka is not banned in any states in the United States, right?
There are states that covering your face at any time anywhere in public is illegal. Please see the earlier posts, but Virginia or West Virginia spring to mind.

The person with a gun if not licensed then should be subdued and disarmed. The burka could be used for concealing a weapon it is a social statement nothing more.

What post number? I will read those because I don't think our government is allowed to do that, neither state or federal, and such a "law" if it exists could be challenged as being unconstitutional (AGAINST our rights) I'm sure.

You people need to understand that we citizens have rights and OUR government is not to dictate such things to us.
You need to understand that there are already dictats that you accept without question, I've you cannot walk around naked. But because you don't mind that one you sweep it aside, and keep making assumptions about your own country. Oh boy. Just go and do the research and you will see for yourself, I can't keep spoon feeding.

I am already aware that the government cannot ban "religious" articles of clothing. Lol.

So you say that you have links that show a burka is illegal and banned in some states. I would like to know what post number contains those links, please. Thank you in advance. :)

While I personally think it is silly to wear a burka and to believe your flesh is "sinful" in any way, we cannot do that kind of stuff here in America because it does not jive with our Constitution and our rights. If you give the government such power, what other clothing articles are they going to want to ban? Should we ban saggy pants, thong panties, heels over 2 inches?

You really aren't paying attention, so this will be my last try. The laws we are discussing relate to covering the face. Doesn't matter what the person is covering it with. Ps it is not a religious requirement to cover your face in Islam, so it is not religious clothing.

The faith and civil rights communities must join with legislators to amend this law to insure public safety while maintaining the respect for religious freedom.

Although, I do not subscribe to the school of thought that says Muslim women must cover their faces in public. I believe it is their right to do so.

While I must remind the readers that in Philadelphia some men have committed armed robbery while wearing niqab, the face veil.

(WUSA) — As we’re approaching Halloween, you may want to refrain from wearing your mask in public before the scary day if you live in Virginia. Doing so landed a 19-year-old Spotsylvania man behind bars.

Wearing masks in Virginia’s public places is a felony that could land you behind bars up to 5 years. Attorney Robert Hall showed us the 1960 statute last amended in 1986. The code prohibits anyone older than 16 from wearing masks or hoods except on Halloween or for medical, safety, or weather reasons. Why?

“This was oriented towards making Klu Klux Klan members be less intimidating by requiring them to disclose their identity,” explained Hall.

But what if you’re concealing your identity for religious reasons like many Muslim women? Surprisingly, there is no exemption: according to the law, that too is illegal.

“If someone thought it was important to their reelection or their initial election that they propose the prosecution of someone wearing a burkah, they could get them on this statute,” said Hall.

“Clearly, there should be a religious exemption,” said Imam Johari Abdul-Malik with the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center. He says it’s a dangerous loophole that infringes on their civil rights.

He added, “Virginia has changed. There are people who cover their faces now who didn’t cover their faces in the 1960s.”

If you think I'm going to post every article and link more than once, or track down post numbers, because you can't be bothered to, think again. I've posted one of them, again, below, and that's the last time. You're an American, familiarise yourself with these issues before endlessly stating baseless nonsense, please :)

Now, we have already gone over certain situations where covering your face is inappropriate. The government should not be able to outlaw a certain article of clothing because you or other people might find it offensive. That is just not how we do things in this country.

If I wanted to go grocery shopping in a burka, there is absolutely no reason why the government should be able to dictate to me that I cannot. Going to the grocery store naked is about public lewdness, indecency and health code issues. Covering your body brings about NONE of those issues.

So, why not get Muslim women to be licensed to wear a Burka? Then everything will be safe, right? Because registered gun owners don't kill people.

yes, the Burka could be used for concealing a weapon. So, we should ban ALL CLOTHING that would allow someone to conceal a weapon.

We're looking at being quite naked for a lot of the time.

Not paying attention? I'm merely asking you to back up your claims with the post number of your link. That is something that you need to do when you are debating about an issue with someone.

Now, back to the subject, where in the state bylaws is this law? There is no reference, just a very short paragraph claiming there is a law with no reference material. I really cannot take it seriously unless it references the specific law so that it can be looked up and read.

This is all your link says about it . . . Showed "us" the law it states. Who is "us?" It seems as if it is a blog site.

No, back to, exceptions can and are made, and are made clear in the laws. Walnut, California maybe being the exception :)

So, there are exceptions for everything but Muslim women? Right..... why?

Sounds just like people want to take freedoms away from Muslims.

Well, I don't want my government telling me that I cannot wear an article of clothing because they are afraid of it. Good grief, that is stupid.
