Tax Cut Tuesday

You mean you define keeping your own money as a reward?
Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once said: 'Taxes are the price we pay for civilized society.' Why give a discount to those who don't need it if we end up with a less civilized society?
So what do you tell the people who pay ZERO federal income tax?
I tell them they have my sympathy since they probably pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than I do.

and even with the tax cuts the top 10% of earners still pay the lion's share of income taxes.

Income taxes are the largest source of federal government revenue.

For all the butt-hurt liberal douche bags who whine constantly about how the tax cuts favor the 'rich'...
The rich have been doing very well for years at the expense of the rest of us, I see no reason to give them a reward for their success.
here, you didn't read this:
'Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this...

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve ball. “Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20”. Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men ? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his fair share?

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by a higher percentage the poorer he was, to follow the principle of the tax system they had been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that each should now pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% saving). The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% saving). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% saving). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% saving).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.

“I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,“but he got $10!”

“Yeah, that's right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar too. It's unfair that he got ten times more benefit than me!” “That's true!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!”

“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison, “we didn't get anything at all. This new tax system exploits the poor!”

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks so the nine sat down and had their beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and government ministers, is how our tax system works.

The point is that the same percentage of differing amounts can result in a greater disparity between the top and bottom.

Just like a lower tax rate on a very large amount of income can generate more revenue than a higher rate on a low income.
The later is true but the former is only true if you switch from comparing percentages to comparing absolute value. Apples and oranges.

WHat matters at the end of the day is the dollar amount in the treasury. And the to 20% of earners pay most of it

What a freakin' idiotic view of life. You would reward people for their failure? Really? When you get moved from fry cooking to using the grill don't you get a raise for your success?
The top 1% have been getting rewards for at least the last 40 years. Where are those rewards coming from?
450px-U.S._Income_Share_of_Top_1%25_of_Households_CBO_%26_P-S_1979-2011.png

Measured for all households, U.S. income inequality is comparable to other developed countries before taxes and transfers, but is among the highest after taxes and transfers, meaning the U.S. shifts relatively less income from higher income households to lower income households.
so tell us in your words what your issue is with the rich. can you?

what is it you're saying, can you in english? We pay taxes by percentage, and the rich pay 20% more than you. what is your issue? did they take money from you?

For all the butt-hurt liberal douche bags who whine constantly about how the tax cuts favor the 'rich', here's an analogy to help you understand why those who pay in the most money / have the most 'skin in the game' get more money back:

The people who already pay the highest taxes will naturally get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.'

I liken it more to this: There is a plate with 18 cookies. A rich CEO, a middle class worker, and a poor man come in. The CEO grabs 17 of the cookies, then turns to the middle class guy and says "watch out, that poor guy is trying to take your cookie."

Doesn't come close to the story originally posted...but thanks for sharing.

so tell us in your words what your issue is with the rich. can you?
There are many kinds of rich, just like there are many kinds of poor. Someone who builds a fortune on brains, talent, hard work, or even luck, I have a lot of respect for. People who inherit their wealth and live on the work of people who came before them and give nothing back, not so much respect for them.

You need to worry about yourself more and others not so much.

Now unless you are a complete hypocrite I suppose you will leave absolutely nothing to anyone in your family when you die, correct?

I think the world would be a better place if we all started the race from the same place but it is not that way. If I didn't leave what I can to my kids they'd be at a disadvantage compared to other kids.

The House passed the tax bill. One down and one to go. Senate is expected to have the votes to pass it without the filthy ass Democrat support. Thank god the Democrats didn't win the Senate in 2016 or else we would be fucked. MAGA Baby!

I love to see the Liberal tears over this. MAGA Baby!

The best part is having more spendable income. The second best thing is repealing the infamous individual mandate from that disastrous Obamacare. Now Obamacare will be kaput. MAGA Baby!

Envy. That and greed. He/she/it wants other people to pay for government. Communists, Socialists and stupid American Moon Bats are brainwashed to hate people that make more money than they do.

I bet he/she/it doesn't have the strength of conviction to return the tax break to the Treasury.
