There is no evidence that new gun laws would stop mass shootings unless they made it virtually impossible for anyone to get any guns, and criminals often use automatic weapons, not just handguns. To protect people from shootings we have to deal with the people who do the shootings, not with meaning gun control laws. You stop what you canMass shootings are spectacular, but they constitute only a small percentage of the number of shootings we have each year. If the concern is the safely of the public, then the emphasis should be on the shootings in the poor and mostly minority neighborhoods of Chicago and the other cities and not on the occasional shootings that mostly effect white middle class people, but the Democrats ignore these shootings because they don't want to risk offending minority voters.I disagree with you. Mass shootings are about as bad as it can get. Most of the shootings in Chicago and other big cities are gang members shooting gang members. It's much worse when good, innocent people are gunned down for no reason. That doesn't mean the situation in Chicago isn't bad, but it is different. TX is the poster child for mass shootings so Ted shouldn't be talking. 4 out of 10 of the worst mass shootings were in TX. They have had 2 in just the last few weeks. They even had a shooter mass kill police there with a rifle. That hardly explains why Chicago's homicide rate is so much higher per capita than other cities. Obviously, there are factors other than the availability of guns that makes some cities so much more violent than others. Mass shootings in the US constitute only a tiny fraction of the total number of shootings, but Democrats try to make gun control about them because it saves them from having to deal with the fact that it is poor people and people of color who commit the vast majority of shootings and constitute the vast majority of the victims. She is right. Chicago guns come from out of
State. Meanwhile TX owns 4 of our 10 worst mass shootings.
Mass shootings are terrible but they are nothing compared to the everyday dangers poor people and people of color face in cities like Chicago and Baltimore where Democrats ignore the issue for fear of offending poor voters or voters of color. Identity politics is the total substance of the Democratic Party and it is killing people everyday across the country and not just in Chicago.
Democrats have politicized this issue by basing their position on mass shootings in order to appeal to white middle class voters without risking offencing minority voters, all the while ignoring the vast number of shooting that occur in America each year, in an act of profound political cynicism.
To stop mass shootings we need to stop making it so easy to get their weapons of choice
If we really want to stop gun violence, we need to go after handguns
