States deny choices all the time. You can ride a motorcycle sans helmet here in Idaho, but if you drive into Oregon, you better put one on. Every power not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution is reserved to the states. That would include marriage. Cruz is doing nothing more than submitting legislation that would reinforce the natural limitations of federal power. It would not surprise me to find out that Ted Cruz is a closet gay.
Some Leftwats haven't gotten the memo that "opposing homosexuality means you're secretly gay" doesn't actually work.
A typical GOP moron. As usual you don't get it. Whether Ted is gay or not is irrelevant. Spearheading legislation that is obviously born from bigotry makes him totally unelectable to national office. His views and actions based on those views will just be an embarrassment for Texas citizens. Texas already has PR problems. Ted is just adding to them.
Bigotry? His legislation wouldn't end gay marriage, just allow states to form their own marriage laws. That's not bigotry, that's choice, something you people claim to believe in, and that's freedom.
It is about states denying choice
It is endorsing restrictions on freedom because they are done at the state level
.
What is reserved to the federal government is the authority to resolve disputes under the Constitution. And while there is nothing in the Constitution which tells a state what laws to have in terms of marriage, it does require the states to apply those laws equally to all its citizens. Thus the 14th amendment is the argument used against not allowing same sex couples the same benefits allotted to different sex couples. The authority to determine if that argument is valid rests with the SCOTUS, as specifically outlined in the Constitution. Any law which removes that from SCOTUS, short of an amendment, would be unconstitutional. And Cruz is well aware of that. It's a publicity stunt for his own political benefit, and on your dime.
