No one has yet gotten the virus here from an infected mosquito. They became infected in Brazil and came her.

We have domestic mosquitos that are close cousins to the Aedes. The concern is that the virus may mutate and infect our mosquitos.

That's true and it certainly important in countries where the
Aedes aegypti mosquito is common. In the US, it is not common and exist primarily in the southeast which means the possibility of an infected person being bitten by this rather rare mosquito and then biting another person who happens to be a pregnant women is very unlikely.

The women giving birth to the babies with this birth defect are either newly arrived or have become pregnant by an infected male who is newly arrived. The danger is that infected humans might spread a mutated version of this disease to a close cousin of that mosquito, the Tiger mosquito common in the south.

Unfortunately if the unborn is infected, the outcome is pretty horrible and there is no cure other than abortion which is illegal in many of the places where the virus is most common.

The outcome for the child is tragic. So why are we letting these people come here.

Well it's not just Brazil. Also, you'd have to stop travel for anyone who would go to a place where people from Brazil go.

So, all Americans would be barred from Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil, Paraguay, Panama, Mexico, Guatemala, Suriname, El Salvador and other places. But then the borders between these countries and Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile etc.

And the travel to Europe and all of that. You'd basically just have to close all borders for anything to be effective.
