The Cost Of Living

No one owns them. That's very silly to even consider. Most healthcare professionals work for large medical groups, such as hospitals, labs, clinics, pharmaceuticals, and specialists groups. The prices are set by the healthcare professionals. Bills are coded and forwarded to insurance companies, and insurance companies pay whatever the code rate is.

What would you like to bet that the majority of hospitals, medical practices, labs, clinics, and specialist groups in the US are owned by one or more of the following:

#1 UnitedHealth Group
#2 Kaiser Foundation Group
#3 Wellpoint Inc. Group
#4 Aetna Group
#5 Humana Group
#6 HCSC Group
#7 Cigna Health Group
#8 Highmark Group
#9 Blue Shield of California Group
#10 Independence Blue Cross Group
#11 Centene Corp Group
#12 HIP Insurance Group
#13 BCBS of New Jersey Group
#14 BCBS of Michigan Group
#15 Guidewell Mutual Holdings Group
#16 California Physicians' Service
#17 Wellcare Group
#18 Carefirst Inc. Group
#19 Health Net of California, Inc.
#20 Molina Healthcare Inc. Group
#21 UHC of California
#22 Lifetime Healthcare Group
#23 BCBS of Massachusetts Group
#24 Metropolitan Group
#25 Cambia Health Solutions Inc.

Of course they are. Very silly. Everyone knows that. Your point is?

They told my brother 1750 was "affordable"...... The people are going to have to take back healthcare from the govt or they can live in poverty

Healthcare costs are set by insurance companies NOT the government.

If Reagan hadn't screwed with the HMO act we'd not be writing of this.
Healthcare cost are set by the healthcare professionals, and not by the insurance companies.

totally wrong statement.....look at an eob or explanation of benefits....and you will see who sets costs....let me pull one

i just happen to have 100s

your providers billed $132.50 Allowed amount $77.27 Member savings $55.03 BCBSNC paid $0.00

as you can see the insurance companies control the allowed amount....

as you can see the insurance companies control the allowed amount....

of course if they really controlled, the allowed amount would always be 1 penny!!! What you have is an oligopoly wherein a few buyers and sellers agree to a market price.

If you had truly free market prices they would be about 20% of the current prices.

Medical insurance is a perfect competition monopoly. 'Free market' is only a theory.

100% stupid as always. if true it would create new competition, and profit would be driven to 0% thanks to Republican capitalism.

A liberal simple lacks the IQ to understand capitalism.

Health insurers in the US own and profit from more than 50% of the healthcare providers.

Republican capitalism = I deduct 100% of my private air flights.

dear can you say what your point is???? Do you have any idea???

capitalism creates the most competition and so the most downward pressure on prices and upward pressure on quality. We don't have capitalism because liberals are too stupid to understand it.

We don't have capitalism because we have monopolies. We have monopolies because Republicans deregulated the capitalists.

so name the most substantive example or or admit to being a typical total idiot liberal.

Deregulating the bi-partisan HMO act.

dear, stupid liberal. I asked for the best example of a monopoly. Can you name the monopoly?? I"m looking for a noun not a verb you total idiot!!.

HMO's were voluntary and faded away because they did not work!! THere is no monopoly you idiot!!!

Judy Feder, a Georgetown University health policy professor, said the nation learned from the HMO experience that the best of intentions can have unintended consequences. “We all know HMOs from the get-go did much more to manage costs than manage care –sometimes at patients’ expense.
