The now-famous Democratic donkey was first associated with Democrat Andrew Jackson's 1828 presidential campaign. His opponents called him a jackass (a donkey), and Jackson decided to use the image of the strong-willed animal on his campaign posters. Later, cartoonist Thomas Nast used the Democratic donkey in newspaper cartoons and made the symbol famous.

Nast invented another famous symbol—the Republican elephant. In a cartoon that appeared in Harper's Weekly in 1874, Nast drew a donkey clothed in lion's skin, scaring away all the animals at the zoo. One of those animals, the elephant, was labeled “The Republican Vote.” That's all it took for the elephant to become associated with the Republican Party.

Exactly............the racist democrats started the ball rolling, thinking they could use the democrat racist flag to smear the freedom and equality loving Republicans....now we stuff it down their throats and we don't stop till the democrat party disbands completely..............

Then we need to follow the old democrats and hound them with their racism....

They wanted this......they can deal with it....

Yes. Im nobody. So it takes spreading the word to start it. Hell...thats how they got the confederate flag down. And thank goodness. Thats how they have brought so much pressure on the Washington Redskins.

Now...an even MORE racist, much much longer tenured symbol/mascot of a group with a centuries long history of racism and oppression. The donkey mascot of the racist Democrat Party and all its past wickedness.

Democrats. ...YOU are now basically like Redskins owner Dan Snyder. Will you change it? Or stubbornly defy change?

Since liberals on here say that immigrants vote democrat. I guess we can say that illegal immigrant that killed that girl in a sanctuary city. Well then that guy killed that girl under the racist democrat logo. The logo must go!

Democrats are afraid of change.

Didn't Thomas Nast, the political cartoonist, come up with both symbols? As well as Uncle Sam?

I checked on it...he didn't invent the Democrat donkey, but he popularized it. He also is the person responsible for the modern image of Santa Claus.

I am firmly with the OP on this issue. I demand that the donkey flag be taken down from all government buildings and memorials immediately.
