The need to make churches pay tax

Irreleveant
Once again proving my point for me.
Only to yourself
No, dude. It's all there in black and white. I showed you exactly how a church is not a business.

And you are wrong.

Churches are held to the same standards that other businesses are except they get special tax exemptions which violate the first amendment
They aren't businesses. We already went over that.

They are

All so called nonprofits must first register as an incorporated business with the state of residence BEFORE it can receive nonprofit status.

A nonprofit's assets can be transferred to another nonprofit business

A nonprofit is held to the exact same standards as for profit businesses as far as record keeping, government reporting etc.

It is nothing but a game of semantics that you fell for

You can give anyone you want $50K, and if it's not to buy something from them, they won't be taxed.

A charity provides a public service, often with volunteer labor and often alleviating the government itself from needing to spend money.

And, you still refuse to concede that churches are treated the same as other non-profits. Shame on you.
The left hate the fact that people in need have a place rather than the almighty government to look to for help. That is the entire issue in a nutshell.
You people need to make up your mind

Some of you sheep call me right wing others call me left wing

See what happens when you live in a 2 dimensional world.
That's just because Libertarians are leftist discards.
Not a libertarian either.
Give it time.
Never gonna happen.

Unlike you sheep I don't need some political party to tell me how to think

Huh... fella yesterday informed me we are the far-right. Looks like we got all you authoritarians upset.
That's usually how Libertarian amorality manifests itself. A vague, rosy notion of something good, noble and just: the advent of these things will bring instant euphoria and a social order beyond reproach.

Nothing so subtle. We just don't like bullies. And we won't support a government that facilitates bullies.

I'm not a fan of bullies either. I'm also not a fan of amorality. There are things we should stand for and stand against.

Maybe you do. You've convinced yourself that a church is a business. You don't seem to be doing so well on your own.

Of course. And believe it or not, you can do that without coercion.

Nothing amoral about not wanting preferential treatment of churches and so called nonprofits at the expense of everyone, quite the opposite really/

And you know how I am doing how exactly?

If you know so much tell me what the gross of my business was this year. Tell me how much property and sales tax my business paid.

Actually it's a game of semantics for you.

You have convinced yourself that non-profit organizations should be taxed. Kinda hard to tax a non-profit. After all there's no profit. They aren't in the business of being a business.

The irony is that the tax exemption is a direct violation of the First Amendment. Government giving approved religions special status is exactly why they wrote the amendment.

I don't think I said anything about that.

I thought I was pretty clear. Maybe you do need for someone to tell you how to think. You've convinced yourself that a church is a business.

You do realize that so called nonprofits own property do you not?

Yet they are exempt from property tax

You do realize that nonprofits buy things that are subject to sales taxes don't you?

But they don't pay sales taxes.

There is no special tax status necessary all any business has to do is show ZERO profit at the end of every year and viola it's a nonprofit.

BUT they should still pay property and sales taxes as those are used to fund the services the municipalities these business are located in provide

First of all the establishment clause was written to prevent the Federal government with interfering with the established state religions of which half of the states had at the time the constitution was ratified.

Secondly, if all religions are treated the same, there is no special treatment.

And lastly, taxing religious organizations would be in violation of the establishment clause.

Let's cut through the bullshit. The reason churches are exempt from taxation is to promote religion. But (of course) only religions approved of by the government. The is exactly the kind of thing the First Amendment is supposed to prevent.

Word games.

Bottom line, we live in a shared society with shared consequences. Stances must be taken.

And I thought it was because they weren't businesses that needed to be taxed because there are no profits or owners or sellers or buyers. That served the greater common good through community outreach and charity.

The reality is that anyone who attempts to subordinate religion is doing the work for socialists, who have always sought to subordinate religion.
