trophy hunting, properly regulated, is probably one of the best ways to provide funding to save many of these endangered species. You get $100k - $200k per trip, and if you limit the hunt to older animals no longer in their breeding range, you don't impact the overall population. That $$ can be used to prevent poachers from indiscriminately killing these animals, and if part of the $$ is given to the locals, it provides an incentive to protect said animals.

He's a nice guy, his other job involves fighting cancer, he loves the outdoors, and his clients tend to be very rich and generous.

The vast majority of Human civilization has historically been based on Animal Husbandry.

Most wild game tastes like crap, so I don't hunt. Fish are good, gators eat them so gators must die; they serve no real purpose in American waterways anyway.

I go shooting at least once a week. Some deer meat is okay when made into chili, but it isn't better than my own personally raised fresh beef. I also get bored hunting, and don't need it for an excuse to go shooting. Most game like deer and elk are practically tame and have been trained to eat from feeders and sitting around drinking beer in a blind waiting for one to get hungry and drop by the feeder is really kind of stupid. You can just stand in the parking lot of a nearby liquor store and buy some drunk's game off of them if that's all you really want.
