Exactly how do you prevent that?

Most of you people are completely clueless when it comes to what principals and teachers can do in regards to students.

If a kid wants to walk out, what do you propose they do about it? You cannot physically restrain a student anymore because of all the lawsuits!

I am looking to ascertain the level of ignorance out there. What have you got?

When a kid isn't there and they do not have a legitimate enough reason for their absence, that is truancy which is where the law comes in. The kids if they are passed a certain age will then be arrested I guess and if they are under a certain age, I guess its their parents who take the hit. I actually do not personally know what happens because I was never truant from school.

If the kid never left the campus, was he really absent?

You don't seem to realize that school disciplinary codes spell this out very specifically.

Step one foot off campus without permission during the school day and you might as well stay gone for three days in my old school district. Walk out of class, but don't leave campus, that's just skipping a class and is a one-day offense. Different schools, different punishment levels, but the offenses are much the same.
