Time to spend money on Infrastructure

Solyndra ring a bell. All that money spent on shovel ready jobs, and so LITTLE INFRASTRUCTURE REPAIRS.

What a WASTE. And now some are pushing for it again, and much is needed, after SQUANDERING SO MUCH MONEY BACK THEN.

Solyndra, the battle cry of the tea baggers. How much? Half a billion. Not a lot of money when compared to Iraq. Nobody got killed with Solyndra either. That ought to count for something with the right to lifers.

LOL

Solyndra is a Liberal Wet Dream PET PROJECT. Solar WILL POWER THE WORLD. GREEN ENERGY. And it went BELLY UP. WASTE OF MONEY.

Why? They couldn't produce it CHEAP ENOUGH, and the killer

THERE ISN'T A HIGH DEMAND FOR IT.

Ever heard of SUPPLY AND DEMAND? To Liberal Economists, it's CREATE A SUPPLY AND THE DEMAND WILL FOLLOW..............

LOL. And they called it VOODOO BACK IN THE DAY. Hey Libs it worked and got us out of the STAGFLATION OF CARTER.

That far left publication Popular Mechanic's had an excellent article on fixing the needed repairs for the US infrastructure. The cost at the time was 1.5 trillion dollars (reported in 2008).
The 1.5 trillion just covers the repairs and doesn't address future needs to keep up with the population growth of new users of the infrastructure.
United States Infrastructure Investigation - Rebuilding America - Minnesota Bridge Collapse - Popular Mechanics

As a side note the US Ranks 24th in world in quality of overall infrastructure. So why doesn't the wealthiest nation in the world rank number 1? No wonder the US is losing out to the worldwide competition! Who would want to invest in a country who's infrastructure is falling apart?

COMMENTS

Why the Hell didn't we just put ALL OF THE MONEY INTO THE DANG INFRASTRUCTURE UP FRONT INSTEAD OF ALL THE BS.

Riddle me this. Fix a bridge, people get jobs they pay taxes. Those supplying and delivering the steel and concrete get more jobs and pay taxes. The area of the construction gets money from the workers and taxes get collected. and etc..............

Wouldn't all these JOBS HAVE GENERATED MONEY FOR THE STATES AND LOCAL GOV'TS ANYWAY?

Only 101 BILLION ON INFRASTRUCTURE. But hey, we needed animal crossings in Florida. Ummm we needed a tattoo parlor. Needed a HALF BILLION FOR A FAILING BUSINESS.

I.e. WE WASTED ALOT OF DANG MONEY.

Time to invest in our country like Mexico, China, India, etc. Americans are going to die if we don't start rebuilding our nations infrastructure. Do you understand?

Let's set our goal at going back to at least 320 billion in 2009. Let's lead the world again!

Mexico, China and India actually needs to work on it's infrastructure. America does not. It's already the highest productive country in the world.

Stop waiting your time and money repairing roads and bridges which are not broken and spend your time building factors.

10 years from now we won't have first world infrastructure at this rate. It's getting sad.

No one can dream anymore in this nation. Our days as a super power is ending by our own stupid hand.

Well you can say that again..............ARE YOU FINALLY REALIZING HOW STUPID IT WAS TO ELECT OBAMA? RIGHT ON DUDE.

LOL

psst......the turtles can cross safely in Florida now. It only cost 3.4 Million.

Solydra wasn't the only company manufacturing solar panels.

The right wing likes to blame loose morals for the supposed downfall of America but if this country were indeed to turn into a third world, it will be because of it's aging and crumbling infrastructure and our inability to replace it or repair it fast enough. We might see some evidence of improvements with construction concentrated in certain areas but overall the problem is becoming bigger than we can handle.

And how many of these companies got a HALF A BILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF STIMULOUS MONEY ONLY TO GO BANKRUPT?

A 10KV Grid with the Batteries, Converters cost about $35,000 plus installation costs and possibly out buildings with ventilation added. That's not CHUMP CHANGE TO THE AVERAGE JOE.

They pay for it like a auto payment for say 6 years and the system is already requiring more money to fix it. Replace batteries, repair controllers, solar cells fail, and etc.

The COST IS MAKING IT NOT A HIGH DEMAND ITEM. When it doesn't cost so much you might see the DEMAND INCREASE. Not until then.

And then, if PEOPLE WANT IT the DEMAND WILL FORCE THE SUPPLY and companies will not NEED UNCLE SAM TO FLIP THE BILL. aka The American Taxpayer.

Infrastructure Gap? Look at the Facts. We Spend More Than Europe - Forbes

The U.S.’s fourteenth place ranking in the World Economic Forum’s infrastructure index scarcely bespeaks a national scandal. Luxembourg and Canada rank just above the U.S., and Austria and Denmark rank just below. None of these countries are exactly slouches in the infrastructure category. Among the twenty largest countries, the U.S. ranks second only to Canada. The World Economic Forum index also shows that U.S. infrastructure beats the European Union average by a wide margin! How can that be with the high speed rail and the gleaming Autobahns of the European Union – the envy of our transportation bureaucrats?

Consider another hitch. OECD infrastructure experts find that Europe has too much supply of roads and rail relative to the demand. Yes, they have trains departing every few minutes, but half empty, and do Germans really need five different Autobahns to drive from Munich to Frankfurt? The same OECD experts find that the U.S., Canada, and Australia have built about the amount of infrastructure that fits the demand.

Well, if all else fails, our big government spenders at least can show that we spend little on infrastructure relative to countries that have good infrastructure. We can really catch the U.S. with its pants down by looking at its miserly infrastructure spending.

Get ready for a surprise. According to OECD statistics, the United States spends 3.3 percent of its GDP (2006-2011) on infrastructure investment versus the European Union’s 3.1 percent. With roughly equal GDPs, the United States actually outspends the Europe Union – our model of infrastructure perfection.

Light rail gets voted down EVERY YEAR here in KC

Nobody but the looney left is interested in that shit. Why waste all our tax dollars on some bullshit infrastructure that will then have to be subsidized for decades to come?

Obama had the money to spend ANY WAY HE SAW FIT with the stupid stimulus and look what we got.... notta.

You going to trust this idiot with YOUR MONEY AGAIN Matthew?

Thanks but NO THANKS

Great find and thank you for posting it. Unfortunately , you can count on those who most need to read it not reading it. And for the rest of us it is pleasantly preaching to the choir. :)

Granted we need to improve our infrastructure. but it makes you wonder why it is in such bad shape to begin with. Why isn't maintenance performed on them to keep them in top shape after we build them?

There is no comparison between DISTANCES in Europe and here! You should look at a map!
I travelled from Paris to Arles, nearly 500 miles, in less than three hours. That's about 100 miles more than from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

It's about the same as Boston to Washington DC. It's about HALF the distance New York to Chicago. In the United States, you can go 800+ miles and not leave the STATE!

This is a myth. Here in KC they work on the highways, side streets and bridges CONSTANTLY
