Time to spend money on Infrastructure

I'm astounded.

What is it about the autobahn that you think makes it superior to our interstate system? Is it because it was built by a despotic socialist dictator?

If you could see the look on my face....

The Autobahn in Germany has no speed limit.

A few years ago Montana had no speed limit on I15, I90 and I94. All the times I traveled those roads I never saw anyone driving faster than 95 mph.

Right, so you want to remove speed limits on our interstates?

Will that make them equal to the autobahn?

Not that I would have a problem with moonbats blazing down the highway at 70MPH in their insipid little Smart cars.

70 isn't fast. Heck, 70MPH speed limits are pretty common!

Time to stop siphoning so much of the people's resources off to feed a bloated, every expanding, ever more expensive federal government, and then we would have much more resources available to use for what we most need where we most need it.
Wrong. Infrastructure projects create jobs. And jobs get American's paychecks. And when American's get paychecks, they spend them on the economy. Nothing gets the economy growing again faster than construction projects, because they affect so many other industry's.

BTW, when the government pays to rebuild a bridge, after that money is spent, at least you have a bridge!

Granted we need to improve our infrastructure. but it makes you wonder why it is in such bad shape to begin with. Why isn't maintenance performed on them to keep them in top shape after we build them?

No amount of "maintenance" would have helped! The bridge didn't just fall, it was KNOCKED DOWN MY A TRUCK! God and goddess, THINK! I promise it won't hurt!

I wasn't talking about that bridge.....

It's not like it's private community or business which decides to higher a private contractor and construct a bridge. The Government is doing all the hiring. This means this money has to come from the private sector. Private individuals have to be taxed in order to make up these jobs. This means all the spending which comes from these new jobs are cancelled out by the individuals who are taxes and have less money to spend.

It's called 'crowding out.' Look it up.

Yes. You do get a bridge. How long it takes to get a bridge is a different matter.

So I take it the righties just don't want to spend the funds to repair and update our infrastructure? America's infrastructure is ranked 24th in the world for the quality of our infrastructure. This makes the US less competitive worldwide. The US, the richest country in the world has a crappy infrastructure and the righties don't want to pay to save lives, save property damages and make America competitive. Unbelievable.

I don't know what you're talking about. They are ALWAYS working on shit here in Mo.

Infrastructure is more than just highways.
It's our power grids, airports, drinking water system, waste disposal, ports, internet structure and security, rail systems and the list goes on.

Does the left believe that we aren't spending money on infrastructure? I have been inconvenienced by construction of an extra lane on an interstate bridge in Va. for at least the last two years. Has anybody driven through Pa in the last couple of years or Maryland? The road construction seems like it will never end. .

Same here in the midwest. Even though we have four seasons, everyone jokes that we have only two seasons- road construction season and no road construction season. Can't drive to the nearest cities, which are about an hour in any direction, without stopping for construction.

Haven't seen work being done on bridges yet and that is where we need to focus. Even the Mississippi bridge from northeast Iowa to Wisconsin has had issues for years. It was temporarily closed recently because people witnesses a large piece falling from the bottom of the bridge. Turned out to be a large chunk of cement, but they reopened the bridge and said it was safe without doing any repairs. Makes me wonder how safe it really is. Taking the ferry makes for a longer trip, but I'd rather do that and be safe.

Well, there are two who think our infrastructure is OK.

Well no shit sherlock. We vote on bonds and electrical issues all the time here. They are constantly digging up old sewer lines as well as gas pipes. Many neighborhoods are getting utiliries that were once strung by poles burried underground.

If shit isn't getting done in your area yell at your local politicians and stop blaming federal ones all the while looking to raid my tax dollars to fix your issues.

And Matthew it would do you some good to do some research before jumping on these idiotic bandwagons.

The purpose of infrastructure is to make the nation more productive. America is the most productive nation in the world. Infrastructure is not the problem. The problem is that you are not building enough factors.

Stop wasting your time and money. Or rather, stop waiting your time and other people's money.

America is certainly not the most productive country in the world anymore.
We were certainly raised to believe that we are.

I don't believe anyone thinks we don't need work on infrastructure. I thought the stim money was going to be used on the crumbling bridges. Rough roads are bad enough, but unsafe bridges are worse. I was very disappointed to see that the roads and bridges being "fixed" were ones that didn't need it. The stimulus money was spent foolishly in many instances.

Were close to 17 trillion dollars in debt and Congress can't seem to find any pork or waste to cut that makes coming up with money to spend for Infrastructure problematic at best.

Global competitiveness has nothing to do with productiveness. America is un-compeititve because it doesn't export as much anymore. This doesn't change the fact that Americans work longer hours and take less vacations and create more economic output per hour than any other country.

Labour productivity levels in the total economy
