Tired of not-winning? ... Average Tax Refunds Down 8.4 Percent As Angry Taxpayers Vent On Twitter

My tax rate this year was -10.64% last year it was -15.8% So taxes did go up, not down...
The GOP yet again played a scam on the voters and repubs in Congress and the executive branch will realize it in 2020.

The funny thing about this is, liberals and the media have been consistenly bashing Trump 24/7 for over two years and Trump's approval rating is higher than Obama's was at the same time in their presidency. Trump is the man!

No it isn't.
Trump 48%
Obama 46%
If Obama was treated the same as Trump, he would've resigned in his first year.

Fake news.
Keep up the good work, the more you whine. The more popular he gets. Lol

The OP is holding the bag of feces. One should never allow the maximum withheld throughout the year while the govt keeps your money and makes interest. Claim maximum number of dependents, create exemptions etc.

That’s what all tax code does...encourages or discourages spending habits and behaviors. I’d bet some people much smarter than you and I have good reason to frame such guidelines.

Yes, the people that want to control our lives have a good reason to use the tax code to try and influence our behavior.

People that are not statist or socialist think it is a bad thing.

The purpose of taxes is supposed to be to raise revenue for the government...not for social engineering.

But too many people are more than happy to be led around by the nose.

Hey look, I hate all taxes...PERIOD. I can play the role of anti government badass too...that’s fun to do in cyberspace...but guess what, unfortunately taxes are here to stay so why waste my time selling you on how badass I am?
Tax code does in fact raise .gov revenue but it also encourages and discourages spending behavior for reasons you aren’t smart enough to realize as you aren’t privy to enough data, historical and otherwise.

So what you have just said is that you agree with the premise that the knows what is good for us better than we know ourselves.

This I guess is not surprising based on your love of the government.

Hahaha...you’re so predictable...thanks for that.
This has nothing to do with love of government. This has everything to do with acknowledging that a super educated, uber intelligent economist whom spends his days and nights studying economics while privy to data and information that you are not may know a little more about what’s best for our tax code.
See, you self proclaimed smartest guys in the room can’t ever admit that shit to yourselves.

The cool thing about Presidential approval ratings is there are two columns - approve and disapprove. Trump is solidly underwater by double digits.

This sudden love of academia from you is unexpected. Who knew you had such devotion to government employed economist.

I suppose when these self same economist say we need to increase the tax rate and need to allow more immigration you will be defending those ideas as well.

The feces has hit the fan at tax refund time as low and middle-class Americans are finding that Trump has his hand in their pocket and has stolen money from their refunds.

The wealthy are still doing just fine. The lies about the Trump tax cuts is now exposed that the low and middle class are financing the tax cuts for the wealthy people and corporations.

Donald Trump won't be able to spin his way out of the tax cut lie.

Average tax refunds were down last week 8.4 percent for the first week of the tax season over the same time last year, according to the Internal Revenue Service. Dipping refunds are inflaming a growing army of taxpayers stunned by the consequences of the Trump administration’s tax law — and the effects of the partial government shutdown.

The average refund check paid out so far has been $1,865, down from $2,035 at the same point in 2018, according to IRS data. Low-income taxpayers often file early to pocket the money as soon as possible. Many taxpayers count on the refunds to make important payments, or spend the money on things like home repairs, a vacation or a car.

The IRS had estimated it would issue about 2.3 percent fewer refunds this year as a result of the changes in the federal tax law, according to Bloomberg. MSNBC reports that 30 million Americans will owe the IRS money this year — 3 million more than before Trump’s tax law.

“There are going to be a lot of unhappy people over the next month,” Edward Karl of the American Institute of CPAs told Politico. “Taxpayers want a large refund.” Some 71 percent of taxpayers received refunds last year worth about $3,000 on average, according to Karl.

Scads of taxpayers are complaining on Twitter that they have always received a refund — but now owe the IRS instead. ...
DePending on a refund is retarded...

Incorrect. I have never posted inaccurate or misleading information here. I check my sources first.

Every time.

And yes, Trump is our president. How odd that you weirdo's use that fact as a kind of stick in the eye. Even you know its weird to have a fucknut like him in charge.

People who have already received their tax returns have simple returns indicating they are most likely lower income. If you already pay very little in taxes why would you think you would get a big refund?
Looks like even THEY are getting LESS money back.
But they earned more take home during the year. Why are you so confused?

The Left never ceases in its quest for class Warfare. This article says it all. It’s very irresponsible in its analysis. It should point out that Americans are keeping more of their regular paychecks, hence, Patrick no lower taxes; in particular, the Middle Class. The Poor do not pay taxes. Why should the Poor get a refund on something they did not pay?

I owe the IRS and feel that the amount is close to zero on the negative side vs. an egregiously large refund coming due to me on the positive side which means I would have given the Government an interest-free loan over the course of a year.
