Trans Woman Raped, Burned to Death in Turkey

The rape and death of a Turkish transgender woman last week has renewed calls for protection for the LGBT community in the beleaguered Middle Eastern country.

The body of Hande Kader, 22, was found in Istanbul Aug. 12. A sex worker and transgender activist, Kader had been sexually assaulted and her body burned. She was only identified through prosthetics.

Homosexuality is not illegal in Turkey, but the Turkish LGBTs have struggled recently under constant fear of persecution from the country’s conservative religious leaders.

Turkey also acts as a gateway for many refugees fleeing conflicts in Syria and northern Iraq and seeking asylum in Europe. Earlier in the month, gay Syrian refugee Muhammad Wisam Sankari was beheaded. His housemates also revealed that he had been kidnapped and raped months before he was killed.

Kader had marched in an LGBT pride rally this summer before Turkish police dispersed the march with rubber bullets and other riot gear.

Truly a tragic crime. She was a beautiful woman.

Rights group Transgender Europe says Turkey has the highest number of transgender murders in Europe

In Europe eh? Well that might not be the case when it IS in Europe.

They always try to twist these things to The Project.
Turkey LGBT activists to protest over murder of transgender woman

LGBT activists are expected to stage a rare demonstration in Istanbul on Sunday in protest at the murder of 23-year-old Hande Kader, a transgender woman, last week, theBBC reports.

Kader, who was a sex worker, was last seen getting into a client's car. Her body was found last week in a forest in Istanbul.

Her former flatmate, Davut Dengiler, described Hande as "one of the nicest people in the world. She was very calm normally but also hyperactive.

"She always went to the LGBTI marches. She pursued a cause that she felt right until the end," the BBC quoted Dengiler as saying.

He later identified her body in Istanbul's morgue.

✕"I was about to leave the morgue. I felt a sense of lightness for not having found her there. At the last minute, a doctor there said, 'There's also a burned body — look at that as well.' I did… I lost myself."

According to the BBC, for the first time, public figures in Turkey are also calling to draw attention to Kader's murder and for people to join the Sunday protest in Istanbul, even as restrictions on demonstrations remain in place following the coup attempt of July 15.

Data from rights group Transgender Europe, cited by theBBC, shows that Turkey has the highest number of transgender murders in Europe.

One transgender activist who spoke to the BBC, Kemal Ordek, relates some of the dangers the community faces.

"There are very few trans individuals who die of natural causes — nearly none," said Ordek, who uses the gender-neutral pronouns "they/their."

"When you are pushed to sex work, it's not possible to reach old age. They are killed," they said.

"I don't know how I survived. That's the sad part."

Probably should just give them refugee status, instead of letting all Turkey into Europe.

No one exercising their "natural right" to the civil liberty to free speech should be murdered. As a civil libertarian I oppose this type of violence. So long as your not advocating violence against others, like when BLM calls for dead cops, then you have a basic human right not to be murdered.
