I propose a challenge:

Name the most famous murderer and the most famous murder victim.

Rules:

If the murderer was famous before the murder, or if he murdered millions in a genocide, that doesn't count.

If the murder victim was famous before the murder, or a head of state, that doesn't count.

My suggestions to start:

Charles Manson and Sharon Tate.

It's true Sharon Tate was famous before the murder, but not as famous as she became after the murder, so I would allow this under the rules.

Also, it's okay to name a famous murderer and famous murder victim who are not associated in the same crime, even though in my example, they are.

Also, like Charles Manson, it is not necessary for the famous murderer to be the actual person who murdered, if he or she PLANNED the murder or instigated others to commit the murder.

Joe Biden, murderer. Killed America in 1 term.

The most famous murderer has to be Jack the Ripper. The most famous murder victims are split, JFK and John Lennon.

Killer: in the US, probably Zodiac. (Who I'm pretty much convinced is/was George Hodel.) Worldwide, Jack the Ripper.

Victim: JonBenet Rasmsey.

Hard to say who is "most famous" since there are quite a few, like Lee Harvey Oswald, but these two should be on the list...

Ted Bundy for the murderer.

Nicole Brown Simpson for the victim.

Many murderers have become famous by virtue of their crimes. Dahmer, Gacy, Berkowitz, etc.

For a victim to become famous, they pretty much have to be murdered by someone famous- that's a much smaller pool to pick from.

Jeffery Dahmer= killer
Black Dahlia= victim

On January 15, 1947, 22-year-old aspiring actress Elizabeth Short was found brutally murdered in Los Angeles — with her body cut in half and a ghastly smile carved into her face.

The 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short, also known as the “Black Dahlia,” is one of the oldest cold cases in Los Angeles. Not only was it a horrific crime, but it’s also proven notoriously difficult to solve.

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer , also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster, was an American serial killer and sex offender who killed and dismembered seventeen males between 1978 and 1991. Many of his later murders involved necrophilia, cannibalism, and the permanent preservation of body parts—typically all or part of the skeleton.[7]
