Because Mueller was conducting a witch hunt that went on for well over two years; much of it nothing to do with collusion. He hired all anti-Trump lawyers to do the investigations, so his motives were very clear.
Now what could be in Trump's tax returns that would have anything to do with his presidency? Professional politicians dream of being President one day. So they structure their taxes in the event they have to release them to the media one day; not because it's a law, but a demand by the media.
Trump more than likely doesn't have pretty tax returns with a bow on them. He took every deduction allowable by law and may have not given to charity as much as the public would like to see. So why should he release his returns? While Trump may have thought about running for President one day, I'm sure he never dreamed he would become President.
His finances are his business and no one else’s business

He is more open than the prior Presidents have been. He is visibly frustrated that post Mueller report, where there scope was conspiracy with Russia that the Democrats continue to try to get him. He is also frustrated that the whole investigation was based on FISA warrant, which was attained by a Dossier paid for by his opposition. The reason this debate is so vigorous is because he has been so open and defensive. IMO.

So he did release his financials as he had to and disclose his holdings. The taxes are the one sticking point but with everything else he had been very open, surprisingly. Again, it’s not him necessarily but his attorneys. He didn’t have to release the Mueller report. He didn’t have to allow Barr to go before Congress but he did. He had been pretty open IMO. Hence we are so divided. A lot of data out there. Not so much with the prior administration on the Fast and the Furious or the one before that on the WMDs

Actually that's not true. It's just the debt is my very last concern in bad economic times where the gov putting money into the market is what gets a country out of the hole.
It's amazing though, as soon as Trump is elected, fuck the debt it's too late. That's convenient.
