Trump is taking the biggest political risk of his career

Trump is taking the biggest political risk of his career by advocating a more optimistic timetable and actions than the doctors and scientists.

If he ends up being correct, he will easily be re-elected in 2020.

If the experts are right and Trump's messages to the American people result in a prolonged pandemic with many more deaths, he will not be re-elected and go down as the worst President in the history of the US.
Hold on. Trump has not said anything about what he might propose. He has said, "He would like to see the country open up by Easter". You can interpret that in many ways. Like just about every American, I too would love to see the country back to to normal by Easter. However, logic tells us that is not going to happen because if everybody went back to work, the rate of exposure to the virus would increase geometrically and within a few weeks the number of cases would sky rocket.

I predict the president will urge governors to watch what is happening in their state carefully and send people back to work asap. So that will put Donald squarely on the side of the working stiff who just wants to get back to work. And if any governors are stupid enough to do so and it increases the rate of new cases, Donald is covered because that was the governor's decision.

However, this course could backfire on the president because 53% of the people approve of the way he is handling the virus issue. They hate having the country shutdown but they feel it is necessary. If he makes any moves as president that back off on his current position which the people approve, it could get him in a lot trouble if this change in direction was accompanied by big increases in the number of cases. Democrats would have a field day with that.

I don't know how one would judge whether his plan is working or not, which would require a balancing of economic gains with the numbers of infection, treatment, and deaths.

The stupidity of the blind partisans really does get boring doesn't matter if they are Democrat or Republican they will bitch, piss and moan about anything and everything a president they don't support says and does.
Listening to the rants of, mainly right wing extremists on this thread, would be funny if it did not have deadly consequences. The far left and the far right are close to the same. There is no critical thinking. There is no honesty. There is no dealing in reality. They both deal in an alternate world defined by an ideology that cannot work in the real world. They are both whiny piss ants who blame others for their problems.

The exact same logic applies when listening to the rants of the board far left extremist.

Yeah, since you figured out it's not going to happen by Easter, how is it, with all the advice by world-class experts available to the Orange Buffoon, he cannot? And how is "all fine by Easter" supposed convey the sense of urgency this issue by necessity requires? For one thing is absolutely clear by now: If the population doesn't comply, doesn't self-impose the necessary restrictions, the death toll will rise exponentially and the healthcare system will collapse.

The worst-possible outcome would be that New York State goes into lock-down, the benighted Southern and fly-over states do not, and once New York is through and has eradicated the virus, a few hundred infected from other States travel to New York and happily start the next outbreak.

So yeah, the fact there is not a coordinated approach across those supposedly "United" States falls right on Trump's bumbling, incompetent approach and this monstrous, monumental failure of leadership. He should be defenestrating governors who do not join New York and California in working to contain the pandemic. Is there something hard to understand about the term "pandemic"? Is there something complicated about the fact that a "pandemic" cannot be contained by a handful of States?

Whoever thinks Trump would be competent managing a hotdog stand is perfectly and utterly benighted.

Trump is doing nothing but signing what he is told he HAS to sign

How so? The cultists will never leave him. Failure, no matter how egregious, is denied........lie about..........covered up by right wing media.........and dismissed by The Following.
The failure to prepare the nation for COVID-19 being a perfect example.

Without hope what do you have? FDR, Churchill...., in the darkest moments of their tenure in office, espoused hope. To cast blame on the President for COVID-19 demonstrates not only ignorance, irresponsibility, but further enables those that covered up the initial outbreak to continue with their repressive policies.

Actually your first sentence was about board right wing extremist then you went to the both are the same part so I just added them.

He would not say that unless he knows something we don't. I think he knows that mass production will have enough supply of the malaria pills that counter coronavirus that we can turn this thing around.

I agree. Trump was unfit for the presidency in 2016 and he is just as unfit now. Words have power and tremendous power when they come from the presidency. When Trump uses phrases such as; "I would like", "I have a hunch", "it would be nice if", "I have a feeling", "wouldn't be wonderful if", etc, he is speculating and that is something a president should not do. It creates confusion within his administration and in the eyes of the public as to the direction the country should take.

Trump declared a national emergency and followed up with press conferences urging American to hunker down, work from home, adhere to social distancing, stay the course, and support the war against the coronavirus. Two weeks later he delivers a mixed message that seems to contradict not only his own advisers but himself as well as questioning the course he has laided out. How are the people suppose to maintain their resolve and fight the war against the virus when the leadership of the nation lacks that resolve?

Trump is already getting high marks for his handling of this crises....from both dems and GOPers....

Neither Trump nor China is responsible for the virus. Viruses know nothing of political boundaries or ideology. Trump can be blamed for the slow response to the virus and China can blamed for not revealing details of the virus sooner.

I doubt they they will give him high marks for reversing his course.
He is not reversing his course he is being flexible and pragmatic like a good leader needs to be....there is not a blanket fix for this...you have to be able to adjust as a leader....weigh and measure actions and results....he is crushing it and the people can see that....MAGA baby!!!!

FDR and Churchill were great leaders in crisis because they combined the truth with hope. Trump is too loose with the truth to be trusted by the majority of Americans.

There is flexible and then there is mixed messaging. Trump is countering the experts providing mixed messages and leaving Americans confused.
