That is true. Trump did not say Coravid-19 itself was a hoax. He said it was under control, and that those who were expressing concern that it was NOT under control and that it would reach and circulate widely in the U.S. regardless of travel restrictions were just spreading a “Democratic Hoax.” He was wrong to say that. It helped exacerbate partisan differences and was not in accord with expert opinion.

CDC and NIH experts had defended and supported the Trump administration’s correct decision on Jan. 31 to restrict Chinese travelers — though not of course the 175,000 American citizens and other Green Card holders in China — to fly into U.S. airports. At the time of that announcement American, Delta and United had already announced they were canceling most flights. But as the experts knew, the virus was already circulating in this country. I remember this distinctly as I had family scheduled to leave Beijing at that time. Trump’s decision did slow the spread, but the time saved was squandered by his own subsequent complacency. Fortunately Trump changed his tune, but now seems to be having doubts (as we all must) about how to proceed, considering the tremendous economic costs of shutdowns.

There has been partisanship on all sides, of course. There are very tough decisions ahead. The medical professionals certainly have their heart in the right place. If up to them, the current shut down would continue until a vaccine or treatment could be created. But, in reality, we could not survive as a country if we went that route. And, I don't believe people could be convinced to comply for that long. It is a delicate balance. But, we will all likely get his virus at some point no matter what we do. We need to slow it down until we have everything set up to fight this long term, and then reopen the country, be as careful as we can, and live our lives.

I have never found that to be too much of a problem at all. If you are polite with them, and just let them know you aren't as keen on jehovah as they are, they'll leave with no problem. They are used to rejection due to the nation of their enterprise.
