The part you MISSED here (apparently the Guardian didn't KNOW at the time) is all those "sigint" intercepts were activity between US INTEL assets "messing with" and "dirtying up" various Trump associates by feeding them dirt on that the Russians supposedly had on Hillary.. Halpert and Masoud connected both Papadopolous and Flynn (and another I don't recall) with Russian linked assets to feed them the dirt. And Brit MI-6 dutifully "followed the fun" that ensued with their super spy tools.
This ACTIVE Intel operation was approved and run out of the same cadre of folks responsible for all the spying on the Trump campaign. Including members of the FBI and Brennan at CIA and Clapper as Dir of Nat Intel.
If there were any "intercepts" of contacts with actual RUSSIAN intel agents, there would indictments NOW for all those Trump associates for more than "process crimes" and lying to the FBI.
But Mueller CAN'T use that stuff, because it comes from an illegal sting operation on Trump campaign associates that he surely knows about and so does the President.
That's why Mueller is churning mud instead instead striking any gold. And WHY --- there is STILL no evidence of actual campaign collusion with the Russians. Just a lot of OUR Intel assets --- interfering with an election..
