Trump Vow: I'll Run From Prison If Convicted

Former President Donald Trump on Friday promised that if he is convicted of a crime and sentenced to prison, he will continue to run for president.

John Fredericks, the host of a pro-Trump talk show, asked the 2024 candidate whether a conviction resulting in a prison sentence would “stop” his bid for a second term.

“Not at all. There’s nothing in the Constitution to say that it could,” Trump replied. “Even the radical left crazies are saying, ‘No, that wouldn’t stop!’ And it wouldn’t stop me either.”

Legally speaking, Trump is correct. The most famous example of an incarcerated person running for president is Socialist Party nominee Eugene V. Debs. Debs received nearly 1 million votes in 1920 while he was imprisoned for his opposition to World War I.

It is unclear what would happen if Trump won while incarcerated, however, since there is no precedent for that occurring in a major federal election. Some scholars have suggested that he could pardon himself immediately upon taking office.

Spending is by Congress only, and presidents have nothing to do with it.
Deregulation and tax reductions are necessary in order to compete with China for high tech, solar, cars, etc.
Trump saved average Americans lots of money by NOT starting illegal wars like the Ukraine, Syria, Libya, etc.

Actually blame Richard M. Nixon. He tried to cash in on his presidential papers, claiming them as a tax deduction. So Congress under their authority under the US Constitution, and signed into law by President Gerald R. Ford, made all presidential papers the property of the US Government.

After all, white house records don't belong to the President, just as DOJ records don't belong to the Attorney General. Or any other government records belonging to the head of the agency that created them.

Putin violated the treaty with the Ukraine and NATO when he seized the Crimea. Russia promised never to attack or claim Ukrainian territory, in exchange for which the Ukrainians gave up their nuclear weapons. Putin has twice attacked and seized Ukrainian territory.

That’s why Putin ran. These sham referendums in the areas where he seized Ukrainian territory, in order to try to legitimatize his illegal conduct.

Please quit trying to pretend that any of the current situation is the fault of the Ukrainian government or NATO. This is all on Putin and his desire to rebuild the Russian Empire.

We don't even have to test the doctrine that a sovereign can't pardon himself, which isn't spelled out in the constitution. But rely on the constitution itself.

The pardon power of the president is based on Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution, which provides: The President ... shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of impeachment.

Trump was impeached for his actions on January 6th. Therefore no president can pardon Trump for the crimes he was impeached for.
