NATO as well as many other overseas alliances, treaties and cooperative agreements in Asia and elsewhere multiplies the effectiveness of Uncle Sam’s military, its Navy, its Air Force, its intelligence, etc. It provides the bases, the logistic capacity, military troop backing, and diplomatic and medical support for our own troops when they do serve overseas. Our NATO and other alliances can be the difference between victory and defeat. NATO’s mere existence has served to prevent U.S. troops from having to actually fight wars in Europe for decades. Today, NATO aid to Ukraine is now and may soon be even more essential.

Mistakes that have been made, as in our invasion of Iraq, usually came from nutty U.S. domestic pressure, not from our European allies! Most of the big NATO countries, like France & Germany, advised against the invasion and occupation of Iraq and many of them refused to participate, getting savaged by most conservative and xenophobic Republican “patriots” in the U.S. for their efforts to discourage our adventurism.
