As it is wont to do this CNN article is so biased so negative and so ignorant!
Starting with the headline: Trump's first budget: Trillions in cuts
Several programs geared to helping low-income and disabled Americans would come under the knife in Trump's budget. It would reduce spending on programs like food stamps (or SNAP), Social Security disability insurance benefits, additional income for poor seniors, disabled adults and children (SSI), and public assistance for needy families (TANF).
Related: American's safety net is at risk under Trump's ax
Part of the reduction would result from Trump's proposal to tighten eligibility requirements for benefits in these programs and "encourage" work. White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney put it this way in a briefing with reporters: "If you're on food stamps and able-bodied, we need you to go to work."

Trump's first budget: Trillions in cuts

Now for reality and why Trump's budget IS SELFISH!!!
A)It calls on Congress to spend $4.1 trillion next year, a little more than what is being spent this year.
WHERE in the hell then are the "Trillions in CUTS"??????
B) Now for the SELFISH part... "If you're on food stamps and able-bodied, we need you to go to work."
What is the difference between people working and people on food stamps and why is Trump Selfish?
1) First the FACTS..
but anywhere from about 42 to 58 percent is a reasonable summary of the report’s findings and more recent data available. We rate her statement Mostly True.
Barbara Lee says 60 percent of people on food assistance are working
So that means at least 40% on food stamps aren't working.
Today, 28 states continue to waive the work requirement altogether, despite an average unemployment rate of 6.72 percent. (The nationwide unemployment rate reached 10 percent during the fallout from the recession and now stands just below 6 percent.) An additional 13 states have waived the work requirement in some parts of their states, despite an average unemployment rate of just 4.58.
Food Stamps, without Work Requirements
let's them assume then of the 40% on food stamps 20% ARE able-bodied or 8 million.

a) If of the 8 million able bodied 4 million became employed food stamp savings : almost $7 Billion.
b) But more importantly if these 4 million are employed at say $30,000 Just in Social security/Medicare payments BY employer and employee of 12%= $14.4 billion in just these two sources of Tax revenue.
c) Total difference between Trump's plan to have food stamp recipients show they can't work!
$21 billion a year in difference!

So where is Trump selfish in that?
Simple. Trump like millions of us are concerned for our children's future when government spending
versus government revenue continues to be larger. This can't be sustained.

So Trump's desire for people to have a fulfilling wage earning life for 4 million more people is wrong?

Give to the rich, take from the poor to pay for it

Ok. Food stamps go to homeless people. You can work and still not afford rent. Food stamps go to people that are mentally and physically disabled.

In order to qualify for Social Security Disability there are usually 3 attempts and it is a long process. Knowing in advance they can't navigate this process and will stop applying. So............just thinking aloud here but what if........people thought this through.

And again... I'm saying that I was guessing at 4 million! But this study shows I was close!

The CRS study dealt with the work requirement for a particular class of food-stamp recipients -- "able-bodied adults" between 18 and 49 years old who have no dependents. Typically the food stamp program requires that group to work or participate in a training program at least 20 hours a week to continue receiving benefits after three months. The stimulus law, though, allowed states to suspend the rule from April 2009 to October 2010 -- and most states did.

In that time, the number in that group surged.

The CRS study showed that in fiscal 2010, the last year for which data was available, the number of food-stamp recipients in that group was at nearly 3.9 million. That's up from 1.9 million in 2008.
Study: Number of 'able-bodied' adults on food stamps doubled after stimulus change

Now I was guessing at 10% were "able bodied" but the above study showed nearly 3.9 million were "able-bodied".
I am really tired of people throwing that old bromide that GOP wants to throw people out in the streets!

Let me start by saying I believe in freedom of speech. I do not believe in the media knowingly telling a lie to fit their agenda. They continually claim this information or that information has come from a source. I can even see why a source should not be exposed by them but when the accusation has been proven beyond any doubt to be false the media should be fined very heavy. For all we know their source could be their barber or even some homeless person living under a bridge. The media should be responsible for their many misstatements. This might scare them into looking more deeply into a particular thing before they try to destroy someone or at least check out the validity of their sources.

Trump's budget does put the safety net at risk. You are engaging in demagoguery by using the stereotype that if you are on welfare, you are there because you do not want to work. Worthy of the con artist that Trump is.

This is the reality:
A) you are quite right about the budget figures and it proves that social programs are being cut. The money from social programs goes into military spending and other Trump favorites including a useless wall.
B) You have to recognize the fact that people may have problems finding a job. Trump refuses to accept this possibility.

Let's look at your facts.
1) You take the 60% that are working. Then you have people who are senior citizens and are living on fixed incomes. Then you have people who may be unable to work due to a disability or something along those lines.
It is also possible for unemployment rates to be low nationwide but high in certain states. It is also possible for unemployment to be low in a state and high in a region of the state. For example, unemployment can be low in Michigan and high in the Detroit area.

The fact is that you are putting the apple before the applecart. People have to have the skills for better paying jobs. They also have to be available. If Trump does that then the money spent on welfare programs then the costs will drop. You want to cut first. If those jobs are created then. that will be fine but if it does not work out then people will go hungry including children.

Also another fact is that it is hard for older workers to get jobs. There is a program that assists workers 55 or older in their job search but Trump wants to eliminate that. There needs to be some thought as to what can be done to help them get jobs. That would pay off big over time.

With Obamacare, tax reform and now the budget I don't see the business aptitude Trump's backers said would enable him to get things done. When he says jump in this job the response is "sez who" and not "how high".

Those senior citizens already have social security! Why do they need SNAP?

Food Stamp (SNAP) Recipient Statistics - Statistic Brain
View attachment 128964
a) If of the 8 million able bodied 4 million became employed food stamp savings : almost $7 Billion.
b) But more importantly if these 4 million are employed at say $30,000 Just in Social security/Medicare payments BY employer and employee of 12%= $14.4 billion in just these two sources of Tax revenue.
c) Total difference between Trump's plan to have food stamp recipients show they can't work!

Let me start by saying I believe in freedom of speech. I do not believe in the media knowingly telling a lie to fit their agenda. They continually claim this information or that information has come from a source. I can even see why a source should not be exposed by them but when the accusation has been proven beyond any doubt to be false the media should be fined very heavy. For all we know their source could be their barber or even some homeless person living under a bridge. The media should be responsible for their many misstatements. This might scare them into looking more deeply into a particular thing before they try to destroy someone or at least check out the validity of their sources.

YOU provided NO facts that the budget puts safety net at risk.
Please I provided the links to support my point. The least you can do is provide facts and not your biased subjective emotionally driven personal opinion.
A) FACT: NOT ONE social safety net is being reduced! Zero.
Sorry: Trump’s ‘heartless’ budget doesn’t slash the safety net
Headlines such as “How Trump’s Budget Cuts Could Hurt Low-Income Americans” (CNN) and “If You’re a Poor Person in America, Trump’s Budget is Not For You” (Washington Post) were accompanied by a New York Times editorial describing the budget as a sadistic attempt to “impose pain for pain’s sake.”
Such headlines may lead people to wonder just how deeply President Trump’s budget proposal would cut federal anti-poverty spending below current levels: Ten percent? Twenty percent? More?

The answer is: zero.
In the (highly unlikely) event that every cut proposed by Trump is enacted, it would merely reduce next year’s spending level to approximately $798 billion. So instead of expanding 2.7 percent next year, the anti-poverty budget would expand by 1.9 percent.
http://nypost.com/2017/03/27/sorry-trumps-heartless-budget-doesnt-slash-the-safety-net/

I'm going to shout NOW!ZERO CUTS! INSTEAD OF GROWING BY 2.7% NOT CUTS BY EXPANDING BY 1.9%! THAT'S GROWTH NOT CUTS!
DO YOU PEOPLE UNDERSTAND???

A typical example of spending growth is the SNAP program (formerly food stamps).
Since 2000, Congress has expanded program eligibility to the point that a 37 percent increase in the number of poor Americans was followed by a 148 percent increase in the number of SNAP recipients. Accordingly, federal SNAP spending has soared from $18 billion in 2000, to $35 billion in 2007 before the recession, to $77 billion today.
Of course, any proposal to pare even a small fraction of this expansion is portrayed — literally — as a scheme to “starve” Americans to death.
This apocalyptic rhetoric is nothing new. When the House of Representatives passed a 2005 budget reconciliation bill that merely trimmed the average annual growth rate of entitlement spending from 5.75 percent to 5.61 percent, a New York Times editorial attacked the bill and its architects with terms like “abominable,” “outrageous,” “madness,” “mean-spirited” “ideological,” “mayhem” “slashing” and — pot, meet kettle — “over-the-top.”

FOLKS! THE KEY IS PUTTING MORE PEOPLE TO WORK! THIS MEANS FEWER PEOPLE ON SNAP!

I would have a lot more confidence in you anti-Trump people's contributions to the thread if and I'm going to shout!
YOU PROVIDED LINKS! NOT GUESSES. NOT PERSONAL OPINIONS. FACTS! OK?

Trumps budget gives conservatives what they have been screaming for for ten years

But not one penny for the infrastructure.

But not one penny for the infrastructure.

Those bridges are located in these things called "states" which should be doing the repairs.

I'll bet you find the airport infrastructure is under another item such as the FAA.
