Frankly, my ideal world would be where everyone is employed at a living wage and we don't need food stamps or section 8 housing. It would be one where we had single payer health insurance and people wouldn't stay at jobs they hated because they have a sick kid. It would be one where old people don't have to eat dog food when they retire because some greedy assholes crashed the market when they hit 64 in 2008 and wiped out their savings.

No, I just look at my 2008 401K statement from the company that illegally fired me when I had medical issues. The one where I took 60% losses after selecting the supposedly "Safe" investments. Watching thousands of dollars you put to the side for retirement vanish into the ether makes me glad we have social security.. But by all means, I think your side should go out there and scream 'Get rid of social security and Medicare, you guys should be taking care of your own parents!!!"

Let's be honest what unemployment insurance is. It's exactly that, it's insurance. It's paying to preserve the investment made in training employees so they don't take "whatever' when they get laid off. You see, used to be, being laid off meant exactly that. YOu were laid off when work was slow and brought back when it picked up. Today, they fire a bunch of people and hire a bunch of new ones for less money. Welcome to the McJob economy.
