U.S. Veterans to form Human Shield at Dakota Pipeline Protest

Some more food for thought:

Why are the Sioux and others protesting the project?

The pipeline has united a number of different interest groups with a variety of objections, but Native Americans have been at the center of the opposition. The pipeline would travel underneath the Missouri River, the primary drinking water source for the Standing Rock Sioux, a tribe of around 10,000 with a reservation in the central part of North and South Dakota. Builders of the pipeline insist that they have taken extraordinary measures to safeguard against disaster, but opponents point out that even the safest pipelines can leak. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has reported more than 3,300 incidents of leaks and ruptures at oil and gas pipelines since 2010. And even the smallest spill could damage the tribe’s water supply. The Standing Rock Sioux also argue that the pipeline traverses a sacred burial ground. And while the land being used for the pipeline is not technically on its reservation, tribal leaders argue that the federal government did not adequately engage the Standing Rock Sioux during the permitting process—a requirement under federal law.

More broadly, environmental activists say the pipeline would contribute man-made climate change by building up the country’s oil infrastructure. They insist that fossil fuels—including the vast reserves in the Bakken Shale—need to be kept in the ground to protect the world from the worst effects of climate change. Proponents of the pipeline argue that oil producers would likely ship the oil by rail line if construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline was halted, as much of the oil produced in North Dakota already is—and argument that was also used in favor of the now canceled Keystone XL pipeline.

Ah, so now it's "next to".....the story changes.

Yeah, like the pipeline wasn't actually going "through" Bismark, but it was still re-routed to protect their water source.

You also need an education on this to cut thru the bullshit these assholes are spewing. Standing Rock currently get their water 20 miles away from the pipeline.

But they were given a new intake that is 70 count em 70 freaking miles away.

Yeah... sure. That's why these fucking people are standing out in the freezing cold and getting hit wit water cannons. For no fucking reason. Do you understand how ridiculous that sounds?

They want to she domestic production in the Bakkens.

That's the real reason. Period full stop.

Well what should we expect from the losers? They can't win an election and stop it legally, so they resort to intimidation and violence. In other words, terrorism.

The environmental movement have been using various tribes for quite a while now as front men.

Yeah, that ancient Indian burial ground is always sacred until a developer wants to build a casino on it.

What to Know About the Dakota Access Pipeline Protests

It's really sad that you have to try to come up with some reason to explain why people would protest in such difficult conditions as these people do... and ignore the real reasons. They care about their heritage and their ancestors. That's something really lost on the people of today who look at the elderly like they are baggage and not people who should deserve respect.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Stay on topic. The 10,000 Standing Rock Sioux have clearly stated what their objections are - their burial grounds and water supply.

Was cool to mow down women and children in the freezing cold, wasn't it?

BTW, you claim to be a naval aviator....whether that's true or not I don't care. If you put in your 20, you surely were either in aircraft or supported aircraft on combat missions. Those missions undoubtedly resulted in civilian casualties....so don't get all high and mighty just because you did your killing from above.

Why is it that people have to put the Indians up on a pedestal alll the time ?

Why? Because this was THEIR land, and they are constantly being victimized. I'm a large part Native American... and I don't mean the "everyone in the U.S. has some Native American in them" kind.

On a pedestal? I thought they were being crushed underneath it.

There is a difference in civilian casualties and fucking taking a Gatling gun and mowing down a whole tribe of men, women, and children until everyone of them are dead.

Please cite one time that Native Americans have built a casino on Indian burial grounds.
