And thus the issue...people are human and even the best news organizations will get it wrong, sometimes. The public has been sold this bill of goods..that any error totally devalues the whole--logically insupportable..and yet, people are buying it in droves. It's like the oft-repeated fact that the polls got the election wrong..thus all polls are inaccurate. All things human have a modicum of error built in..and most adults know this. If perfection is the only standard that is acceptable..than all fall short--it is this that the spin doctors count on when they attempt to sway public opinion. Throw in the fact that many WANT to be lied too...or at least, have their view affirmed by the media...and it becomes very difficult to sort wheat from chaff.

It is, often, partially Trump's fault..because he has become a purveyor of slanted and sometimes outright false statements--first, in order to manipulate the press and win an election, and then to continue his support with his base. But, in doing so, he poured gasoline on a fire that has been burning for a while now. Trust in the media, any media, is a dead issue now..for many. The MSM, reviled by the Right, still do a good job putting the facts out there. But it remains to be seen, the long term effects of the millions who now get their facts from the net..from people with little or no journalistic background....people who tailor their stories to fit either their preconceptions and/or what they think the paying audience wants to hear.

In the battle of belief vs facts--belief will usually win out--for most. We now live in a time where as long as there is a link that supports your view...your view is not only valid..but 'proven' true.

We need people who can see past that.

As for the self-serving claims of Columbia, this assumes that the basic pressure behind the decline of the Times and the rest of the far left press is partisanship. While partisanship is indeed the deciding factor for what the Times (and Jeff Bezos hate blog) publish, it is absurd to think that it is the cause of the failure of the leftist press. The fact is people still get their news on-line. People still use diversified sources, rather than "the News Paper of Record" for information. The prospect of a resurgence in print is patently absurd, fodder to excite mindless fools like you. Is it reasonable to assume that the school which has made the term "journalistic integrity" an oxymoron would have any sort of academic integrity? Clearly not.
