US Soldier Freed From Captivity in Afghanistan

I thought I couldn't be stunned by Obama's actions anymore. He is one stupid individual and anyone that still supports him is in the same boat. The message is loud and clear, take US soldiers prisoners and use them to leverage deals to free terrorists. Even if the soldier is unworthy of the uniform. This will be a very difficult thing to undo.

Quite a quandary..

First you conservatives bitch about Obama not freeing a law breaking marine.

Then you attack the soldier actually freed by the work of President Obama.

You guys really can't get it together..can ya?

:D

After considering it for a couple of days, I come down on the side that Obama shouldn't have made this deal. Not because of the numeric differences between one and five but because what it does for the next soldier to be taken captive...do you make that deal.

I'm happy the American GI is coming home--I wish they were all home--and we likely have gotten all of the intel out of these guys we could expect to get.

However at the end of the day, I think it was a deal I would not have made.

Terrorists we gave to ensure his release:

•Mohammad Fazl, the former Taliban defense minister during the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, chief of staff of the Taliban army, and commander of its 22nd Division. According to a U.S. Department of Defense document obtained by Wikileaks, Fazl is believed to be an associate of Supreme Taliban Commander Mullah Omar and was “wanted by the UN for possible war crimes including the murder of thousands of Shiites,” surrendered to the Northern Alliance commander Gen. Dostum in November 2001.
“Detainee is assessed to be a HIGH risk, as he is likely to pose a threat to the US, its interests, and allies,” his Guantanamo detainee file reads. “If released, detainee would likely rejoin the Taliban and establish ties with ACM [anti-coalition militia] elements participating in hostilities against US and Coalition forces in Afghanistan.”

•Mullah Norullah Noori, a former Taliban military commander and Taliban governor of two Afghan provinces, who led Taliban forces against U.S. and coalition troops and was also “wanted by the United Nations (UN) for possible war crimes including the murder of thousands of Shiite Muslims” as Fazl was, according to Noori’s Guantanamo prisoner file as obtained and posted by Wikileaks. He is also believed to be associated with Supreme Taliban Commander Mullah Omar.
Noori commanded the Taliban in the northern city of Mazar e-Sharif. Like Fazl, he surrendered to Gen. Dostum in 2001.

Rated a “HIGH” threat to U.S. security interests if released, Noori is or was associated with members of al Qaeda, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, and Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin.

•Khairullah Khairkhwa, a direct associate of Osama bin Laden according to his Defense Dept. detainee file obtained by Wikileaks, and a senior Taliban military commander who also served as the Taliban’s minister of Interior and the governor of Herat.
He represented the Taliban at meetings with Iranian officials seeking to support actions against U.S. and coalition forces after the Sept. 11 attacks, according to the document. He attended a meeting at the direction of bin Laden, reportedly accompanied by members of Hamas, the document says, and is believe to have been one of the major opium lords of western Afghanistan.

In 2002, he sought to negotiate an integration into the new government through Wali Karzai, the brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai who has been accused of corruption and drug smuggling, but was arrested by Pakistani border patrol and released by Pakistan into U.S. custody.

He is also deemed a “HIGH” threat if released.

•Abdul Haq Wasiq, the Taliban’s former deputy minister of intelligence, had direct connections to Taliban leadership and was “central to the Taliban’s efforts to form alliances with other Islamic fundamentalist groups” to fight against U.S. and coalition forces, according to his Defense Dept. file obtained by Wikileaks.
He also used his position to support al Qaeda, assist Taliban personnel in eluding capture, and arranged for al Qaeda members to train Taliban intelligence staff, according to the file.

He seems to have later turned informant, as his file notes that Wasiq was arrested after a meeting with two Americans and a translator, in which he was supposed to deliver information leading to the capture of Mullah Omar. Shortly after the meeting, U.S. forces arrested him

What the U.S. Gave Up to Get Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl Back - ABC News

We negotiated the release of terrorists, some wanted by the United Nations for mass murder of Sunni Muslims.... not to mention other acts of terrorism.

Well..if they had such "compelling" cases against them?

Why weren't they tried?

Eh?

Within 3 years after the end of WWII all German and Japanese soldiers that were held for various crimes by the Allies had been tried before a court of law and those found guilty received their sentences.

Yet, we have so called detainees in Gitmo who have been there a decade and never charged with anything.

Clearly there is a miscarriage of justice concerning these people. .. :doubt:

With all the hoopla about the "marine" taking three very powerful guns into Mexico, running from police and winding up in Jail, many conservatives seem to have forgotten an American soldier actively fighting in Afghanistan was being held by the Taliban.

He's free today..thanks to President Obama.

The only American soldier held prisoner in Afghanistan has been freed by the Taliban in exchange for the release of five Afghan detainees from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Obama administration officials said Saturday.

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was handed over to U.S. special forces by the Taliban Saturday evening, local time, in an area of eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border. Officials said the exchange was not violent and the 28-year-old Bergdahl was in good condition and able to walk.

In a statement, President Barack Obama said Bergdahl's recovery "is a reminder of America's unwavering commitment to leave no man or woman in uniform behind on the battlefield."

ooooh yaa, thank you Odirtbagbama, for committing another illegal act, did you forget you signed a law that prevents what you just did ? do you realize you just put every American serviceman/woman in danger of being captured and held for ransom ?

here is your sugar you fucking motherfucking qweer hound. :fu:
eat :poop: you :asshole: and :gay: troll :trolls: a double just for you :finger3:

here is one just for the OP :9:

What I want to know is why, after getting all the information possible, they are still alive, and why some were allowed to return to the shit holes from whence they came to go back to the business of killing.

How did I know this was going to be the reaction..

It's like I'm psychic or sumptin'

There is some question whether or not he will be charged with desertion, so the guy is free for now, but he will most likely see a court-martial, and be locked up again in Leavenworth.

What a prize.

5 murdering thugs for one deserter........

Every one of these GITMO detainees are going to be back killing our troops in no time.

Obama did this for political reasons. He would be better served to focus on getting that Marine out of a Mexican jail than swapping for this guy.

Looks like one of those "thugs" fought for the muj against the Soviets.

Back then?

President Ronald Reagan was comparing those "thugs" to our very own founding fathers.

Ain't it grand?

After 11 pages of bullshit from Shallow, all I can say is that 5 for 1 is a terrible negotiation and presents an open invitation to all terrorist assholes to capture Americans and trade them for captured terrorists on a 5/1 ratio.

Obama is a complete idiot when it comes to international activities. He has put every American overseas at risk--------------thanks, dipshit.

I'm happy for him and happy for his family just as I'm sure the five Taliban who were exchanged for him are happy the can go back and rejoin the fight.

Well they have to spend a year in Qatar.

It's sorta doubtful they be "rejoining" any fight any time soon.

and you believe that shit ? what a fool, i'll bet they are back in the battle within a few weeks..., but how can it be proved.., other than an ambient temperature corpse ? :lmao:

oooh ! BTW :fu:

what do you think of that

You have no clue when or where those weapons were used. And if the weapons can be used to kill, they weren't obsolete. Otherwise they wouldn't have bought them.
Can't you read? They were obsolete TO US, not the ragheads. Go back and read it again, slowly, maybe get some kid to help you with the big words.

No weapon that can kill is obsolete to a terrorist. Since Reagan sold weapons to terrorists who hated America, he essentially aided and abetted the ability of terrorists to target and kill Americans. That's treason.

Of course he committed treason.

And to win an election.

Despicable.

There is nothing Obama can do that the left won't applaud and make excuses for, even BREAKING THE LAW and putting US all in danger AGAIN from this release

White House Acknowledges They Broke The Law In Release Of Gitmo Terrorists, But Claim “Exigent Circumstances”

obama-flying-the-bird

We reported yesterday on the breaking of the law. Today they admit it, and claim ‘exigent circumstances’. Obama even has the temerity to say even though he signed the law, he has the right to ignore the notice part.

Via The Blaze:

In response, the White House says that officials considered what they called “unique and exigent circumstances” and decided to go ahead with the transfer despite the legal requirement.

Lawmakers weren’t notified of the Guantanamo detainees’ transfer until after it occurred, according to the Washington Post.

More from the Post:

A senior administration official, agreeing to speak on the condition of anonymity to explain the timing of the congressional notification, acknowledged that the law was not followed. When he signed the law last year, Obama issued a signing statement contending that the notification requirement was an unconstitutional infringement on his powers as commander in chief and that he therefore could override it.

“Due to a near-term opportunity to save Sergeant Bergdahl’s life, we moved as quickly as possible,” the official said, the Post noted. “The administration determined that given these unique and exigent circumstances, such a transfer should go forward notwithstanding the notice requirement.”

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said that the detainees transferred from Guantanamo to Qatar, where they are to stay for at least a year, the Post added, “are hardened terrorists who have the blood of Americans and countless Afghans on their hands. I am eager to learn what precise steps are being taken to ensure that these vicious and violent Taliban extremists never return to the fight against the United States and our partners or engage in any activities that can threaten the prospects for peace and security in Afghanistan.”

What specifically did Bush do that caused those guys to lose their heads? I understand that you don't like Bush, but hurling unsupported bullshit just makes you look more stupid than you usually do.

This can't be true, Obama promised to close Gitmo.

Of course his warrantless use of drones and the killing of both the guilty and the innocent seems to point to a certain level of lawlessness.
