No, it doesn't mean any of that. If China didn't make the stuff, someone else would. And in fact, many countries make "all our stuff". China is logically the largest trading partner, simply because they have 1.4 Billion people.

But we're not beholden to them. If they cut trade, we would trade with someone else.

Now the key to this discussion is that if China didn't exist, most manufacturing would still have moved outside the US.

First, you need to stop saying things like "the USA was dumb to move..." The USA didn't move anything. You make it sound like the country got together and said, let's move such and such.... that never happened.

Companies react to the economic incentives given to them. When you Unionize a plant, and drive up the cost of labor and production, and the company can't make a profit in the US anymore, then you move manufacturing out of the country.

You could ban imports from China, but that won't bring a single job back to the US. As long as it is not economically viable to manufacture something in the US, then it won't be manufactured here ever. You have to reduce the cost of manufacturing in the US, and more manufacturing jobs will be created here.

How do you do that? Get rid of the Unions. Reduce the regulations, and cut health care mandates.

That is how you bring manufacturing jobs back.

Who implemented the regulations and heath care mandates? Elected officials from both parties killed the climate for manufacturing within our borders.

Never said otherwise. I agree. The Republicans may be increased regulations and controls 'less' than the socialist left-wing, but they certainly didn't reduce them much until Trump came along.

Hopefully you can save Intel but don't count on it.
One thing that help may save it is Trump's tax cuts. Semiconductor manufacturing is very capital intensive and as they can now write off capital expenses the same year the expenditure is made it helps a lot. Before they had to amortize capital expenses often till well after the equipment had already become obsolete even if they could accelerate depreciation. That was really difficult for the semi industry. Maybe if he can get a handle on the enviro whackos, maybe just maybe Trump can help bring some of it back where belongs.

And that is why left-wingers are terrible at economics. You have not looked at a single bit of evidence, not a single balance sheet, not a single research paper, nothing.... and without having even made an attempt to research the matter, have already proclaimed your conclusion.

That alone is why Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, even the Greek crash, why all those places end up in ruins.

I've said this story before, and I'll repeat it here. I worked at a company where we were hired to make a specific product, for a specific price the customer was willing to pay.

We ran the numbers multiple times. It was impossible to make a profit on these products here. So we were left with one of two options... either outsource, or not do the project. No point in building something, and employing people, to end up with a loss of money. So we outsourced to China.

You can't run a company on a loss. The short term gain of having created a dozen jobs, will be out weighted by the long term loss of dozens of jobs when the company closes.
