USDA targets candy, cola in new school nutrition regulations

Raise your hand if you can correctly identify which section of the Constitution authorizes the Federal government to regulate what food and drinks are provided at schools.

Clock is ticking.....

I'm quite sure that fertile liberal minds will cite the Interstate Commerce Clause or the 14th Amendment. Nothing is beyond their ability to jump intellectual chasms with those two abused references.

They might fall back on the good old promote the general welfare bullshit, too.

Let's wait and see.

Congratulations. I've never seen a more nihilistic, moronic post.

You deserve some kind of prize.

I take it you aren't a Zappa fan.

Zappa would cringe at what you've done to him.

The government has found the definitive curb on obesity. Raise the cost of food to being unaffordable.

How to curb obesity: Tax calories, study says - The Washington Post

A per calorie tax.

“A calorie tax would get you the biggest bang for the buck; it’s the most direct way of taxing obesity,” Okrent said.

There are at least a couple of problems with that option, though. Nutritionists would prefer to distinguish between “good” and “bad” calories, and taxing calories might push the price of staples beyond the reach of the destitute.
Only in America are foods approved for consumption THEN demonized as unhealthy and Taxed as such. Americans just go right along with it too. "Oh that sounds reasonable. Those companies should have to PAY for their Death Dealing Ways!" Derp!

Is this a Freedom we can thank Vets for?

Foods don't have to be healthy to be approved. Youre confusing two different things.

You seem to take offense to offering healthy foods?

Want to see something even funnier?

Michelle Obama, quoted in the same article:

“Unfortunately, we don’t always have control over the snacks our kids have access to when they’re away from home”

That's far more true than you may know, Mrs. Obama. Keep in mind that in some schools, government monitors are checking the lunches kids bring from home, and are jejecting lunches that don't meet the standards the govt thinks they should meet.

State Monitoring Home Lunches and Forcing Children to Also Eat School Lunches ? The Ohio Free Press

THat's right - the attempts parents are making to control what their own kids eat, are being overruled by government busybodies.

Mrs. Obama, would you and your self-appointed cohorts at the Federal and State levels please, please stop "helping" us?

Can some progressive explain to me why the hell this is a federal issue????

IF you morons do not understand we have an obesity problem,
then Sugar is NOT your problem.

lack of grey matter, is your problem.

ONE "pop" has 40 gr of sugar.

that's your daily intake in ONE beverage.

how much over weight are you fools?

have fun when you are OLD AND FAT!

THEN you want the Tax Payer to pick up the tab for YOUR irresponsible behavior.

DIM cons.

WE are the second FATTEST nation. YOU should be proud.

Obese and proud!

Offering them is not what is happening here. Sure, put the healthy machines next to the junk food. What is happening here is mandated replacement via the school lunch program.

Providing food to schools should not give the feds ANY oversight of whats in the school lunchroom beyond the food they are paying for.

And so the Obama's USDA Gestapo deprives kids of the sugar intake they need to remain conscious during school time.

And the republican gestapo wants to deprive women of what they do with their bodies also. Both political parties interfere in people's freedom.

So you weren't mad that Junk Food was only offered but youre hopping mad that Healthy Foods will replace junk food?.?

I'd love to hear why? I fear you don't have any idea really

No I'm mad at federal tax money being wasted on this crap, both in the design of it, the implementation of it, and the forcing of localities to perform it at the risk of losing thier lunch money funding.

Its up to the local school board or state education department to figure this crap out, not the feds.

Yeah, we'd better form a Senate committee to study the baby belly fat problem and make pork barrel recos to the main body.

Boot camps might be fun. It would be amusing to watch the little bastards run with a drill sergeant on their asses. I expect the mercenaries we hire to kill Arabs for us could handle that program. Muzzles would be too cheap and effective for a government program. Mandatory stomach stapling is an idea. I expect the AMA would endorse it.

Why be satisfied with half measures like merely stopping them from buying empty calories between classes?

If you're going to be a statist, totalitarian authoritarian, do it right. Read the Russians, dude; Dostoyevski, Solzhenitsyn. There's nothing wrong with those kids six months in a good gulag wouldn't cure.

On May 26, 2009, Robert Lustig gave a lecture called “Sugar: The Bitter Truth,”

which was posted on YouTube the following July.

Since then, it has been viewed well over 800,000 times, gaining new viewers at a rate of about 50,000 per month, fairly remarkable numbers for a 90-minute discussion of the nuances of fructose biochemistry and human physiology.

Lustig is a specialist on pediatric hormone disorders and the leading expert in childhood obesity at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine, which is one of the best medical schools in the country.

He makes the case that sugar is a “toxin” or a “poison,” terms he uses together 13 times through the course of the lecture, in addition to the five references to sugar as merely “evil.”
And by “sugar,” Lustig means not only the white granulated stuff that we put in coffee and sprinkle on cereal — technically known as sucrose —
but also high-fructose corn syrup, which has already become without Lustig’s help what he calls “the most demonized additive known to man.”

We regulate things that KILL people.

You appear to be completely ignorant of the federal money that has been funding school lunches since...like...the 1930s.

These posts are amusing.

Yes, and the only say that money should allow the feds to have is what the money is spent on, the provided lunches. It should not extend its power to anything else provided.
