It's been in effect in Maryland for 2 years.

My SIL nearly rear-ended a woman making a left hand turn because he was taking a drink of coffee when she put her turn signal on and slowed down. Had he not swerved at the last second, it would have been messy.

Another time he did rear end a guy (no damage done) leaving a gas station because he was looking for his coffee mug.

Taking your eyes off the road to find your drink or your food, or driving with one hand on the wheel means you're not fully in control of your vehicle.

Smoking means you have to find your smokes and your lighter, take a cigarette out of the pack and light it. What could possibly go wrong?

$200 could be enough to make people pay better attention to their driving because for most people $200 isn't considered pocket change.

It is illegal for them to be on while the vehicle is moving unless they are in the back seat. Most in dash tvs and such wont come on if the key is past the accessory.

You can still smoke without worrying as long as there is no other violation. There is a pretty slim chance you will get pulled over for something else right when you are smoking.

I don't know how well license suspension would go over. If them people are not going to respect one law, why would they respect another?

No - it's not required. They just like to do it and this needs to stop.

Nope can't be an Uber driver without the Uber ap on your cell phone telling you who to pick up where and where to deliver them.
Can't be a cop without the radar,ladar, plate scanner, network to police dispatch, and lap top. And don't forget the radio.
Can't be a cab without gps, and internet devices for internet savvy customers to call you and dispatch you.
Can't be a trucker, without a laptop telling you where and when to go.

Seek help. You need to have your driving privileges revoked if you cannot operate a motor vehicle while tuning a radio. To own a license to drive, you must demonstrate simple motor skills.
