Want universal background checks? A question....

Register the serial number of the gun and provide a title, just like an automobile.

We're told by gun lovers that cars are just as dangerous, just as lethal as cars. If we accept this premise, then guns should be registered and titled.

that's stupid for two reasons

the use of cars properly, costs the government money. registration is designed to obtain money to pay for roads

secondly, no one is suggesting that cars be banned or that registration is a needed tool for confiscation

and another thing

the constitution. The federal government doesn't have any power to demand registration since forcing people to register guns they bought years ago is not a sufficient nexus with interstate commerce-not even under the idiotic dishonest Democrap interpretation
Guns, when used in public spaces costs the government money. Emergency response and subsequent court costs mount up quickly.

Secondly, no one is suggesting banning guns or confiscating them. Don't bring the paranoia.

And gun registration would apply to all new sales as of the beginning of the legislation, not retroactively on previous sales.

If, indeed cars are just as lethal and just as dangerous as guns as so many gun lovers maintain, shouldn't the same requirements apply to both automobile and gun sales?

No that is the typical stupidity of the anti gun low wattage types. Guns only cost the government money when people improperly use them ROADS cost the government money for proper use. Now if the government was providing shooting ranges you might have a point.

and claiming no one wants to ban guns demonstrates how really ignorant you are.

Ahh.
So you've got 300M guns already in circulation. They have an operating life of about 100 years or more. Your proposal would do nothing whatsoever to address those 300M guns, which are the source of gun related crime.
So why do it?
Oh yea, we've got "do something".

they want to feel good about themselves after constantly crapping their panties over the thought some people own guns

Of course new gun laws won’t stop all violence, says Michael Tomasky. But they’re still a good idea.

The Gun Lobby's Dumbest Argument - The Daily Beast

Universal background checks would only be a minor inconvenience to gun nutters. Speed limits don't stop all speeders, but they sure help to make our roads safer than they would be without them - especially when backed up by enforcement (radar/cameras/cops/courts/DMV).
You silly people, thinking that laws can prevent people from breaking the law, failing to understand that laws exist not to prevent people from taking an action, but punish them when they do.

Your argument, based on the fallacy described above, will always fail.

You fail to realize that the primary reason for speed limits is SAFETY - punishment is secondary when caught.

and morons like you confuse restrictions on USE and POSSESSION

using your gun "logic" it would be illegal to own any car that can exceed any speed limit

You make a good argument for smart cars and smart guns. They already make smart guns - which rigid nuts like you may eventually force on all of us.

well that depends

And you morons lost all of them!

You can think they were reasonable all you want. That doesn't make it true.

Your arguments mean absolutely nothing. It won't stop background checks. Especially when the issue is before the people and not politicians.

It will be before the people in my state in two short months.

Polls show that 72% of registered voters in Washington will vote YES.

So all your demands, all your lies, all your twisting of words mean nothing. In reality your side will probably lose in November in my state. There will be background checks at gun show and for private sales.

You can claim that there's background checks at gun shows all you want. All you're doing is splitting words. Sure the gun dealers may do the checks but not the private sales at gun shows. So no amount of your half truths will work. All gun sales in Washington state will be required to have a background check whether you like it or not.

You don't have to like it. You don't have to agree with it. You do have to accept it.

You try reading. The 4th link states the following:

To date, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) has prevented more than two million convicted felons and other prohibited purchasers from buying guns. The law also has a deterrent effect—prohibited purchasers are less likely to try to buy guns when they know comprehensive background check requirements are in place.

Hey SFB- every person PROPERLY DENIED HAS COMMITTED FEDERAL FELONY PERJURY

Yet almost NONE of those 2 million were even arrested, let alone convicted.

prohibited purchasers are less likely to try to buy through FFL dealers and MORE LIKELY to use straw purchasers or the black market

WHY HAVEN'T THOSE 2 MILLION PERJURERS been prosecuted. almost 25 years in the DOJ in one of the 15 biggest districts and we didn't have a SINGLE PROSECUTION for lying on a 4473

and guess what SFB? if you admit to the sales clerk you are a felon-they don't DO the background check

it never makes it to the statistics

Hey dummy, a sales clerk is under NO obligation to ask if a person is a felon before giving them the paperwork.

And it's a safe bet that most of them don't ask

hey moron, the sales clerk is supposed to read the 4473 before calling in the information.

I know I represented gun dealers and then I was a fed

moron

oh gee look, you don't even have to INVOLVE the store clerk in the 4473

Saving time filling out the paperwork

i dont see anything that says a clerk is not involved in the process

according to the link the store processes the form and

they (the store) calls in the information

He doesn't understand the process and was trying to be clever. Unfortunately, I know this area in and out and his pathetic effort was duly dismissed as idiocy and dullardness

He doesn't understand the process and was trying to be clever.

that much is obvious

No I dont have to do anything.
Your state can go fuck itself. And you with it. MD and NY passed strict gun control and saw major businesses leaving. So did Colorado.
You can't marshall a decent argument for registration so now your argument is "the voters will pass it." That remains to be seen in any case. But it isnt an argument for UBCs.

It's obvious that gun nuts are afraid - because they know they have no reasonable argument against universal background checks. It's just a matter of time...
Oh look -- a lie. From an anti-gun loon, one shoudl expect no less.

You know as well as I do that this board is replete with reasonable arguments universal background checks, not the least of which is that they are impossible to enforce.

This has nothing to do with registration. I've never said a word about registering guns.

This is about background checks. That's it. So that we can keep as many guns out of the wrong hands as possible.

It's that simple.

Business aren't going to leave our state just because background checks are done on all gun sales. That's ridiculous.

This is Washington. Not Colorado, NYork or MD. This is just a ballot initiative to try to keep guns out of the wrong hands.

Your hysterics, paranoia and out right lying is pathetic.
