Washing machines/dryers prices up 17% under Trump (thank you, tariffs)

Wanna buy laundry equipment for your home? Good luck paying more than you used to, thanks to Donald J. Trump and his tariffs.
In this thread, we will come up with ideas as to how to lower said prices again:
Opinion | Trump’s tariffs are already backfiring
Buy stuff made in America cry baby.

They hate america.

Bernie and Warren will probably run on free washing machines/dryers for everyone.

They actually scream, squeal, and cry when we take positive steps that benefit Americans.

I bet if they went up because of a union strike settlement or huge minimum wage increase, you would be celebrating.

And how many washers or dryers does one buy in a lifetime? I'm pushing 60 and perhaps I owned about four different sets. The set I have now I've owned for 15 years and have no plans on replacing it. Older Maytag's that are working just fine.

Union bashing, not surprised. Let me guess you work non union and have no health and welfare benies.

I work non-union and have great health and welfare benies. Unions once served a vital purpose in this country, but they have now gone the way of the buggy whip, they have outlived their necessity.

Tell that to people that are getting their benies cut by the companies.

Dont work for that company then.

Trying to change the subject I see. What do you think companies in the past had to do to make those dramatic increases in wages and benefits when unions made the demand? What do you think businesses who are stuck in liberal cities with huge minimum wage increases have to do to pay those new higher wages?
Union workers make up about 10% of the private workforce but are all the problems, how does that make sense? How about your health benies bro.

We are sitting at full employment, companies will do everything they can to keep good people. Right now is a great time to be a worker.

By "backfiring", you of course mean "working".

Move to China if you want those slave wage labor products. Sign up for the slave wage labor.

Also this will reduce the deficit by raising tax money. I always thought you loved taxes.

Love this sentiment...buy what the central government tells you to buy, or move to China and by what their central government tells you to buy.

I remember the days when socialism was seen as a bad thing by those on the "right".

When did the government tell you what you can or cannot buy? The only time government did that is after Commie Care was passed, and even then, you still had the option not to buy insurance. Nobody was going to lock you up.

Tariffs are the government's way of controlling what you buy, buy what they want or pay the extra price. Tariffs are the government's way of picking winners and losers in the economy, instead of letting the free market system do that.

Tariffs are about one thing, control. And the more control the central government has, the less freedom you and I have.

So are taxes, so is obamacare, so is warfare.

Very true. So, I guess in your world since we are doing it some, lets just go all fucking out and go full socialism.

I don't work under a union. I negotiate my salary and never depend on someone else to get me a dime raise per hour once every five years.

That's great, that doesn't work for ALL people. Usually there is strength in numbers.

Unless you want a raise

This is not socialism, but common sense. Unless you want your future to be in China.

The biggest and best countries are by default the winners of trade wars, yet we have kept losing so much.

Trump and you all are wanting us to be emulating China, which has a socialist market economy. The more we copy them, the more we move towards socialism

Our country is in the 2nd longest period of economic expansion in its history. We have, as multiple threads on this forum tell us, record low unemployment and our economy is BOOMING.

Explain how that equals losing? If we are losing so much, how is our economy so amazing?

No, actually we want him to protect our national capital. If you have a problem with that, maybe China is the place for you. That's where all the jobs would be headed under your insane plan.

My insane plan is this weird thing called "freedom" and a free market. Perhaps you've heard of them, they used to be the hallmarks of this great country. But now we have people like you that want the central government to dictate to us what to buy and to punish us if we do not buy the right product made in the right place.

You want to take away freedom of choice and then you tell me to move to China. Fuck, I do not need to move there, people like you are turning our great country into China.

I love how you totally ignored the fact our economy is doing great right, prior to the socialist tariffs being put into place by our dear leader.
Perhaps you should move out since being an American is so hard for you.

Another moron who thinks those that want freedom are the ones that should leave the country.

Companies have been cutting benefits since the dawn of Obamacare.

I was specifically given a raise specifically so my particular employer could then take that money from my check each month to pay the $200 more per month my insurance increased. That started happening 2 years ago. So my gross income has increased...but my net remained the same because my employer takes all that $$$ to pay increased insurance costs that my contract says they are obliged to pay for in the first place.

Racketeering.

.....I was just talking to a co-worker at my work...he said they used to have a lot more higher paying manufacturing jobs...but they got rid of most of that manufacturing equipment because they could get the stuff cheaper from China
....so something is wrong

Nah, let's remove the tariffs and privatize the control of the border. Any private agency would go far farther and wouldn't let its population be raped. But before that let's remove the much bigger socialist programs.... government pensions and social security.

That clown is on a government pension that's why he doesn't give a shit about American workers and private sector jobs.

I also work in the private sector and make a very fine living at it. The retirement for an E7 with 20 years is not enough to live off of unless you like being far, far below the poverty line.
