Someone came by searching for “what percentage of murders committed with AR[15.”

That number varies with the year, of course, and is in decline along with other gun related murders. Using 2014 FBI number of 11,961 ‘depraved heart murders,’ 39 of 11,961 murders, or very slightly more than 3 in 1,000 murders were reported by the media to have been committed with AR-15, AK-47, and similar firearms.

On the other hand, the number wanted is the percentage of the homicide total, which includes murder, manslaughter, and “official intervention” 91 of 14,249 homicidem> victims were killed with military style semiautomatic rifles; the majority by police SWAT teams. That is a per decimal percentage of 0.00073845 or approximately 7 per 1,000 homicides, or 0.0.7 percent.

Yet in the face of this we most remember that 40100 people were killed in auto accidents last year, and 40100 families were destroyed. So why are you so concerned with the tiny percentage of people killed by AR-15 style weapons?

Start counting by 1 and stop when you get to 40100..........

110 people a day are killed in cars, how can you not want cars and vans banned
We register cars, require the drivers to be trained and licensenced, require owners to insure their cars

Why not do the same with guns

No we don't? What gave you that idea?
Off your meds today, I see

No, you?

No law exist that says you must register a car to purchase one, nor do you even need a drivers license. The only reason either becomes required is if you wish to drive, or to drive a car on a publicly funded roadway.

Now you wanted to use that as the equivalent to owning a gun? I'm good with that. Want to use a gun at a publicly funded shooting range, then one must have a license, training and register the weapon, if not, just like a car, none would be required.

Glad we agree,

A kid wants to shoot up a school and wants the best tool for the job, we sell him an AR 15, 30 round magazines, a bump stock if he wants to impress
A bump stock is completely pointless, if you actually want to kill people anyway. A controlled approach, finding your sights and using each bullet to it's most potential would be the way to go, again, if you're worried about body count. Bump stocks are "fun" and they can be made with a board and two screws if you really want. They're only good for emptying a magazine as quickly as possible without any accuracy then going "whoa that was intense."

If you want to make an intelligent point, you could say that an AR-15 is the weapon of choice because a rifle with a pistol grip is inherently easier to carry and shoot while standing. It makes it easier to get your sight and put rounds on target, while the longer barrel length (compared to a handgun) makes it more accurate and it's muzzle velocity makes it more deadly. But, it's not backed up by any numbers, as far as numbers of mass shootings committed with an AR-15. More mass shooting are committed with handguns. The AR-15 is the most popular rifle in America by far, so therefore any mass shooting using a rifle instead of a handgun is, by the numbers, going to favor the AR-15. It's kind of like if i pick a number between 1 and 10 from a hat, there's an 80% chance i pick a number between 1 and 8.

Why not do the same with refrigerators and toaster ovens? A license is when the government takes away a lawful activity from you, and then sells it back.

.
You really think that is the reason for requiring a license?

Yep, it's all about government control. Let's say you want to open a convenience store, how many licenses do you think you'd would need to sell perfectly legal products?

.
Fearmongering hysteria. AR's are involved with very few violent crimes. I strongly urge all Americans to read up on what Benjamin Franklin had to say about fear and safety. Folks need to tune out the usual suspect fearmongers, and stay calm. Always err on the side of Freedom & Liberty.
What did Ben have to say about AR 15 s in the hands of crazy people?

Where did you get the 39 number for AR-15 civilian rifles? I would like to have that source for my own posts...

The link was there, the really sad thing is that the accurate government numbers are hard to find, because they tell the truth that the liberals need to squash
No, what's sad is this sort of ridiculous lie.

That you can't find accurate government numbers has nothing to do with 'liberals.'

The point Rosey was making is that, if you really want to have a "public safety" play, then you look at what is the more dangerous first. You seem to ignore that.
Rosy makes a valid point in general, but ignoring valid concerns of parents who are concerned their children may be massacred at school or in a social setting by someone with an AR-15 is frankly not helpful to 2nd amend discussions. It is the "go to" weapon for mass killings. That does not mean it should be "banned."

Yeah, let's just ignore the fact the odds of being shot by an AR on any given day is greater than 4 trillion to one. You have a better chance of hitting the Mega Million and Power Ball lotteries on the same day.

.
Yet they are the chosen weapon of mass killers

Why help them get the weapon of choice

Keep pushing the lie, they've been used 10 times in the last 20 years, hand guns are the preferred weapon of virtually all shooters.

.
If you want to shoot small schoolchildren .....what better weapon than an AR 15?

Which weapon would you prefer to shoot a six year old?

God you're pathetic, this is a prefect example of how you regressives revert to the absurd when your arguments fail miserably.

You asked the wrong question which should be: What percentage of MASS MURDERS are committed with an AR-15

The largest one was by box cutter

#2 was rental truck

But, lets not get to hung up on the minutia.

#1: Semi automatic handguns - 99 used in 67 incidents
#2: Semi automatic rifles - 43 used in 35 incidents (less than 1/2 as many as handguns)
#3 Shotguns - 29 used in 23 incidents
#4 Revolvers - 23 used in 18 incidents

So Semi auto rifles were used 22.2% of the time

Why the AR-15 keeps appearing at America's deadliest mass shootings
It's perfectly relevant to the discussion. People are saying we need to take guns (or certain types of guns, AKA the AR-15) away to reduce the murder rate.

If you want to acknowledge that banning AR-15s would make a tiny impact on the gun murder rate committed with rifles and have impacts on others (namely handguns, then other weapons like knives) then i think we could agree. Or, if you want to ban AR-15s cause you don't like the media sensationalizing mass shootings, then ok as well. Both issues could be addressed via other, more effective means that don't directly infringe upon law-abiding citizens' rights. Those are what i prefer to pursue.

I am not interested in banning assault-style rifles - Too many of them out there.

Merely want a 3 day waiting period, raising age to 21 and a VERY thorough, mandatory BG check including mental health.

So please don't look at me as another "gun grabber" - I'm fine with the second amendment but it is not without limits.

Agreed. The premise that a murderer will just not murder because you say he can't have an AR style rifle is absurd. Killers, Kill, they don't care about style, they use what they can get their mitts on to accomplish their goal. It really is that simple.

I'm OK with the waiting period. I disagree that someone that's old enough to operate a tank be limited when buying a gun. The mental health issue is debatable unless, on the table is discontinuing the use of mind altering/mood altering prescription medication on our youth. Without it, you solve nothing.

How many bullets required to stop an attack?
Ask a cop.
Armed civilians are not late to the party cops.

Repubtard NRA Nut Jobs claimed 3.6 million were stopped in 1994 by just showing the gun. So by that measure NONE. Funny how that was 3 times more violent crimes that happened & more than the number permitted to CCW a Gun in 1994! LOL!!! Less than half owned a gun, yet guns stopped 300% of all attacks! LOL So all we need are fake toy replica guns!!!!

A study of all shootings over a 5 year period of 1997 through 2001 proved 2 shots was average. Max number of attackers was 7 at once & they were all stopped with 3 shots!!! The most shots needed with a small .32 cal was 13 to stop an escaped Lion. So NO civilian needs mass shooting replaceable magazines They should all be fixed magazine 15 round weapons.
What study?

And I don't like being average. You might aspire to be average but hey IDGAF about you anyway.

NRA “The Armed Citizen” 3 rounds is all you need!
