I can't help that the parents are being fed paranoia, and neither can those who own these guns for legitimate reasons.

It is just as likely, even statistically more so, that these children would die, to or from school by someone texting and driving, which is 16 per day. But lets look at reality, not many parents take their childrens smart phones from them before they let them jump in their cars.

The truth is, that if you really want to stop most (if not all) of these school shootings, you must look at the cause, and it appears that there is a real link to SSRI antidepressants. I've linked many times to research that shows these links and to other research showing that those on SSRI's are 50% more likely to commit violent crimes then those being treated without them.

I don't think there is any doubt that, unless we get real in these discussions, that the mass killings, using any number of methods, will continue. Excluding SSRI's from that discussion is a not an option to me.

Everything else is simply a solution in search of a problem.

The "how many people are killed in car accidents per year but no one wants cars banned" argument is retarded. Cars aren't designed solely for the purpose of killing people, their operators at a higher clip than anyone outside the car, no less. Further, while licenses are required to drive cars, it's also because everyone is sharing public roads and thus whizzing by each other every single day. Guns don't have an every-day use unless you're a professional marksman (maybe) or actively engaged in war. They're nothing but tools, potentially very dangerous tools, almost exclusively used on private property (unless they're being used in an unlawful manner).

Other than tightening up background checks readily available upon purchasing a gun to where all criminal and mental health related issues that could impact one's fitness to operate a gun, i don't see what gun control measures could really be taken to curb violence meaningfully. What the primary target should be is influencing guns' potential operators to be (actually) tolerant and compassionate toward their fellow man even if they disagree strongly about something, and that harming/killing someone is never the right answer regardless of the question.
