As we are clearly no longer the constitutional republic that our founding fathers created, and in no way shape or form have we ever been a pure democracy, it is difficult to say exactly what type of government we have. It seems to be somewhat of a blend of socialism and fascism to me though. What do you think?
Republic: citizens have the power and are represented by elected officials
Democracy: government where power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them
Socialist: government ownership and control of production and distribution, of capital, of land, of rights, etc.
Communist: a totalitarian government ran by a single self perpetuating party controls all economic and social activity
Fascist: government led by a dictator having complete power forcibly suppressing all opposition. Complete control over industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing aggressive nationalism and often racism
