The Blue Dogs weren't racists and in may cases not even bigots. They were socially progressive but fiscally conservative white, mainly rural.

Of course not, there are no real Republicans anymore, they have taken on the mantle of the long ago Dixiecrats. That's what reactionaries do, they reach back to the past, since they lack the ability to progress.
The Gop is desperate for a national message since Tax Reform didn't take hold and Trump is now the guy with kids in cages. The truth: ICE is a disaster. It makes Comey look competent. ICE's greatest gift is that it keeps rural county sheriff budgets in the black, because the feds pay to keep illegal aliens in local jails after they're arrested and a federal slot opens for them. LOL
