Where Have You Gone, Joe DiMaggio

Western Civilization has changed drastically. In fact, so has the culture of this nation, although I donā€™t know which is responsible for the other. Joe D is representative of a different time, a different view people had of the nation, of faith, and of our future.

1.At the beginning of our journey, the journey that led to Western Civilization, there were two doctrines leading away from the paganism of pre-monotheistic times: God created every human in His image and human beings are able to investigate and make rational conclusions about the world. These two ideas were born in Jerusalem and Athens, respectively. The importance of same is the basis of Ben Shapiroā€™s new best-seller, ā€œThe Right Side Of History.ā€

2. These two factors are largely responsible for this cornucopia. Compared to an earlier time, today mothers and their children can expect to survive childbirth, and their children live another eight decades. Almost every American lives in a climate-controlled home with food and a TV. They have a car, refrig, microwave, and a cell phone. We have computers with internet, buy products from all over the globe, and cheaply, at that. None will be enslaved, few murdered, and free to have unpopular views or lifestyles. You can worship as you wish, or not at all. There is no institutional racism, and no governmental requirement to have or not have children. There is no aristocracy, no perennial wealth class, and most will die richer than when they were born.

First one, and now the other, have been minimized, marginalized, erased and eliminated by the Left.
First the Enlightenment killed God, and now what might be termed ā€˜toleranceā€™ has done to reason what Orwell predicted in 1984: ā€œWar is Peace. Freedom Is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.ā€

3. ā€œThatā€™s why when [Ben Shapiro] visited Berkeley to speak, protesters outside chanted ā€˜SPEECH IS VIOLENCE!ā€™ Thatā€™s why [Shapiro]- an Orthodox Jew,ā€¦have been routinely castigated as a Nazi. Subjectivity rules the day. [That is why] reason, in fact, is insulting. Reason suggests that one person can know better than another, that one personā€™s perspective can be more correct than someone elseā€™s. Reason is intolerant. Reason demands standards.

Better to destroy reason than to abide by its dictates.ā€ Shapiro, Op. Cit., p. 184.

4. If faith in God and religion, and a believe in manā€™s ability to reason, led to the glorious civilization in which we luxuriateā€¦..where does the loss of both lead humanity?

" When morality became privatized, the questions ā€œwhat is rightā€ became ā€œwhat is right for me.ā€ Feelings... became the arbiters of behavior. Rather than traditional taboos, only religiously based moral judgment was deemed taboo. The harm caused to abandoned spouses or children by adultery or desertion- harm that can be objectively documented in rates of ill health, depression, educational underachievement, criminal behavior- was all but ignored, while damage done to peopleā€™s feelings by condemnation of their adultery or desertion was considered unforgiveable."
"The World Turned Upside Down," Melanie Phillips, chapter 14

Hereā€™s where it leads:
illegals are told to vote,
false charges of collusion carry the day,
liars come out on top,
convicts get to vote, and citizenship has no meaning,
men can become women,
and Dallas authorities tell thieves that thereā€™ll be no penalties for theft.

"We Have a Virtue Problem, America

...what has changed? In the early 20th century, Americans had access to guns, cars, electricity, entertainments, and intoxicants (alcohol, opium, heroin). Today, we have guns, cars, technology, media, and intoxicants (legal and illegal). In no era is there a shortage of opportunity for vice, but today there is a definitely a shortage of virtue.

Since the late 1970s, the militantly secularist agendas that had been gathering momentum for several decades really began to be felt in our country. In countless university classrooms, professors with activist hearts (many of whom had first felt moments of anti-establishment ā€˜wakefulnessā€™ in the 1960s) were influencing more young minds than ever with secularism.

Anti-God, anti-American sentiment was the pedagogy in 1970s and 1980s education (I know; I am a product of K thru 12 thru undergraduate public education). I remember certain exercises in the late 1970s that, even then, bothered my uninformed 6th grade sensibilities. Being taught Darwinian evolution and being told how evil the slave-owning Founders were was only part of my public school ā€œindoctrination.ā€
