Good Guys With Guns Intervene in Maine Walmart Shooting

Two good guys with a gun intervened in a shooting altercation at a Walmart in Maine last weekend.

According to WCSH in Portland, Maine, two bystanders legally carrying handguns intervened in a shooting situation on Sunday afternoon at the parking lot of a Walmart in Augusta.





Four suspects were taken into custody and charged with an array of offenses, including reckless conduct with a gun, aggravated assault, and drug trafficking, according to police.

Nobody was injured in the shooting and all parties denied medical assistance.

WCSH reports:

Police said the suspects involved were sitting in vehicles parked next to each other when an altercation arose. The occupants of one vehicle fired at the occupants of the other, which resulted in a return in gunfire.

When the shooting stopped, police said one suspect exited their vehicle to confront the occupants of the other vehicle. This is when two bystanders, who were legally carrying, interfered and stopped the incident, police said.

If you hold in place and you hear someone coming down a blind hallway, do you shout out and ask if they are the police, the shooter or another good guy? If it's the shooter, you're shit out of luck, aren't you? If it's the police they may not believe you are a good guy. They may think you're the shooter trying to save his sorry ass.

And if you hold in place but can hear the shooter actively killing people in another part of the building, what do you do? Your gun becomes a joke to the people who are dying.

Considering the Police usually take more than 10-15 minutes at BEST to provide an actual response, the initial time window usually consists of two parties, the shooter and the potential victims.

Your main issue is that you assume everything has to go perfectly, and if it doesn't than having a CCW onsite is worthless. What you ignore is that there is no "good" solution to these situations, only less bad solutions. And I would rather take a chance with someone being armed and able to fight back, than to have everyone disarmed, and trying to escape, lock themselves down, or find improvised weapons for a last stand.

You don't, you also don't have the option of a perfect solution. How would people know a off duty cop if they were to pull their piece during a mass shooting?
You are adding conditions to create perfection, where less bad is what we are aiming for. A guy running around blasting people is a bad situation, a guy with a CCW laying in wait is less bad.

Again, CCW's should not actively search for the shooter, if the crowd runs, run, if the crowd barricades in place barricade, but if the shooter comes at you, at least you have a chance of taking him out.

People we all have cell phones including those who have a concealed carry license if one who has a permit finds themselves in that position hold where you are call the police and inform them of your location and that you have a weapon and a concealed carry license so they know where you are and you have one. If the criminal happens to cross your line of fire and you have a clear shot drop him or her as the case may be. Despite what some would like you to believe those who have concealed carry are not a bunch Wyatt Earp wannabees looking for a wild west shootout.

Wrong. Your gun is to provide you a means of escape since your taught to always know your surroundings.

You can always find instances where someone is not psychologically prepared to take a shot, and it is better for them to NOT fire in that instance. Would you rather they fire in panic to satisfy some arbitrary standard you invented?

Ok, can you cite some credible sources with links to this exact situation? By all means, if we're "far better off" being unarmed around an armed mad man, then their should be oobles and oobles of links of situations where a concealed carry good guy was gunned down by police who thought he was the bad guy.

Hey twit....the concealed carry permit had nothing to do with those shootings.......considering the person was going to commit murder, not allowing concealed carry wouldn't have stopped the shooting twit....and actual research shows that concealed carry permit holders are more law abiding than other citizens and more law abiding than sworn police officers....please...think before you post....

And who will pay for this training? And will lack of training be a bar from carrying?

Europe uses massive training requirements to limit access to guns......sorry, a non starter.

What will then happen is the required course will have a 6 month wait list, and will cost a few grand. Any requirements like this can be bastardized by gun control nuts to make it as hard as possible to get a CCW.

No it won't necessarily. It might but even cops screw up on occasion. All we can ever do in life is increase or decrease our odds for survival. But often the argument by the left is made in absolutes. There is no requirement for training here as WA is shall issue and we aren't having problems with ccw holders gunning down each other. But for the left it is an emotional issue and reason simply doesn't apply.
